Embercrack Border Fort

Embercrack Border Fort
The Embercrack Border Fort is a wooden fortification built post Ryth Redstone assassination and used to defacto control entry to Redstone Hold via The Northern Border.

Purpose / Function

A forward military outpost established by Clan Embercrack to lock off the newly drawn frontier following the collapse of Redstone governance. Its primary function is to control travel between Northern Redstone Mine and the rest of The Hold, enforce territorial claims, and intercept any loyalists attempting to regroup.

Design

Efficient rather than elegant. Built around a straight road that bisects the fort for checkpoint control. Everything inside serves function: storage, shelter, command, mess, and fire pits for warmth and morale.

Entries

Main thoroughfare gate on the north-south road. Gaps in the palisade exist only for maintenance; unauthorized access is difficult without detection by ranged patrols or alarm triggers.

Sensory & Appearance

The fort smells of smoke, pine sap, and steel polish. The soundscape includes clanking armor, hushed strategy murmurs, and forest wind brushing wood. At dusk, flickering torchlight paints long shadows over stacked crates and tense watchmen.

Denizens

Embercrack border guards, scouts, supply officers, and a rotating detachment commander.

Contents & Furnishings

Tents are inside the border forts enclosed yard along with fire places and inside of the fort itself lays a sizeable captains quarters for the commander of the fort.

Alterations

Originally a temporary watch-camp hastily erected after the assassination of Ryth Redstone. Over time, reinforced palisades, stone corner anchors, and supply staging areas were added as the border hardened into a political reality.

Architecture

A square, timber-and-earth fort with four elevated corner watch posts and a central dirt courtyard. Stonework foundations reinforce the corners, suggesting a transition from improvised encampment to semi-permanent fortification. Crates and supply racks dominate the yard, flanked by canvas officer tents and mess covers.

Defenses

Palisade walls, raised watch platforms at each corner, and controlled road access. Fires kept burning to signal allies in the forest if warnings must be sent. Scouts routinely patrol the surrounding woods. Despite the rustic scale, troop discipline and advantageous positioning make assaults costly.

History

Built in the wake of Redstone’s political implosion, when Embercrack forces seized the opportunity to isolate the Northern Redstone Mine. Initially met with protests and skirmishes from Redstone loyalists, it quickly became an accepted—if bitterly resented—fixture of the new frontier.
