Frederic Havilland
Dr. Frederic Ellis Havilland
Born and raised in Kinidover, a bustling riverside town nestled beside the Greene River in the Kingdom of Hodrana, Frederic Havilland spent his early years dreaming of adventure and service to his homeland. The youngest son of a modest family of herbalists, Frederic was always practical and grounded. He honed his traits by years of hard work helping his parents manage their small spice shop. He learned early on the value of discipline and persistence as they would define his life both in and out of the military.
At 16, Frederic joined Hodrana's army as a Lumancer field medic assistant eager to make a difference. The Great Sentis War erupted across Hodrana's borders when Frederic was 20. It was a bloody conflict that would stretch on for four years, claiming the lives of thousands and decimating the Sentis. Frederic's determination to save lives fueled his every action, and he quickly gained a reputation for his tireless work on the battlefield. The war, however, would not leave him unscarred.
During the Siege of Mylobelle, a devastating battle that broke the spirits of even the most seasoned soldiers, Frederic's world was shattered. Surrounded by the dying and the wounded, Frederic witnessed horrors that would haunt him for the rest of his life. The brutal siege lasted weeks, and by the end, the once-prosperous town of Mylobelle lay in ruins. Amidst the rubble and chaos, Frederic found an infant, Imani , miraculously alive in the arms of her fallen mother. At that moment, something changed in Frederic. He swore to protect this child, seeing her as a glimmer of hope in a world torn apart by darkness.
Frederic returned home and brought Imani with him, to the surprise of his beloved wife, Violetta. The two were eager to start a family. While raising Imani was not something they planned for, Violetta welcomed her with open arms. They saw the child as a blessing despite the tragedy and loss she represented. They later had two sons of their own, Maks and Ronan.
The war, however, had left Frederic with more than just physical scars. Diagnosed with battle exhaustion after the Battle of A’mnor, his mental health began to decline, and Frederic was medically retired. Despite this, he threw himself into his work as an herbalist and spice merchant, seeking solace in the familiar rhythms of the trade he had learned as a boy. His stubborn nature and ambition kept him going, but the nightmares of war never left him.
Things seemed to settle for a time. The family lived a simple, quiet life, and though Frederic struggled with bouts of pessimism and weariness, his loyalty to his family kept him grounded. He was determined to provide for them and be the father they needed, even if he was not the man he used to be.
Tragedy struck again when Imani turned 11. Violetta disappeared under mysterious circumstances. No one knew what had happened to her, and her absence cut deeply into the hearts of her children and Frederic alike. With his wife gone, Frederic was the sole provider and caretaker of the family. It was a burden that weighed heavily on him. His health, already fragile from the mental scars of war, began to deteriorate. The pressure to provide for his family while battling the relentless onslaught of soldier fatigue pushed him to his limits.
As years passed, Frederic’s once boundless energy and discipline began to falter. He became more withdrawn, leaning heavily on his routines to maintain stability for Imani, Maks, and Ronan. Though he remained loyal and hardworking, his outlook darkened, and he struggled to be the father he wished he could be for them.
