The Sentis
The Sentis were a tribe of people whose roots were grounded in nomadism. They were some of the oldest ethnic groups to exist within Vanori, and many believed they were descendants of the ancient empire of Zetrionia. They travelled throughout the continent following migratory herds or because of changing seasons. Over the last millennia, most clans within the tribe began to settle within their homeland, Mangrove Glades, while other clans continued the tradition of nomadism. The subtropical Mangrove Glades lie in the southeastern region of Vanori bordering the Tuca Wilds rainforest to its north, and the arid desert of Zetrionia to its west. The climate is warm all year-round, and the region experiences a wet and dry season.
Structure
At the head of the Sentis tribe existed the Chieftain who led from the capital, A’mnor. The last Chieftain, Galt Olasatra, was democratically elected by the various clan elders. He had five wives, but his sanctioned wife, known as the High Mother, was Tallulah Olasatra Finchsong. Chieftain Galt and High Mother Tallulah made the final decisions on how the tribe would proceed but not without council from the clan elders. Clan elders were often the heads of individual clans and leaders of the Dendrohmi sects. Clans were made up of 2 or more families who chose to cohabitate together. Before the Great Sentis War, there had been a total of fifty clans that lived in the Mangrove Glades. Today, the number of clans that survived the war is less than 5, and even the number of their members dwindle. Those who remain stay hidden to escape persecution from Hodrana.
Disbandment
The death of King Lieven of Hodrana sent ripples throughout Vanori. It also was the catalyst of the Great Sentis War between Hodrana and the Sentis. During the Vernal Conclave of 1878, King Lieven of Hodrana was assassinated by Sentis assassins. King Ayden of Hodrana, then crown prince at the time, was enraged by the Sentis' actions and spent all efforts to avenge his brother. Supported by all of Hodrana's citizens, Ayden laid siege to the Sentis and Mangrove Glades.
The war lasted four years and killed nearly 90% of the Sentis in Mangrove Glades and its surrounding lands. The Mangrove Glades themselves had also been decimated and left uninhabitable. Those who survived fled where they could, but those already in Hodrana were not so fortunate. After the war had ended, King Ayden decreed that all Sentis, or those who have connections to the Sentis, be reported. Those reported were rounded up and sent to Rimonevan, never to be seen again.
