Violetta Havilland
Violetta Lia Havilland- Erlanger
Born to the Erlanger family of Ulfast in the Kingdom of Blacklam bore the weight of her family’s high expectations with a quiet determination. Unlike her older sister, Violetta was known for her modesty and humility. Her characteristics set her apart in a world often ruled by ambition and greed. She had a natural knack for empathy and patience. These qualities softened the harder edges of her way of life and endeared her to her family’s customers and partners. Violetta, however, was a deep thinker and often over-analyzed situations, questioning the fairness and ethics of specific trades and alliances her family made.
During one of her trade expeditions to Rimonevan, she met Frederic Havilland, a field medic assistant. His grounded nature, practical skills, and disciplined demeanor intrigued her. She saw in him a rare sincerity that cut through the polished façades of the business world she knew so well. Despite their vastly different backgrounds, Violetta and Frederic shared a common dedication to hard work, integrity, and a deep-seated loyalty to those they loved. They married soon after and settled in Bixxieton. They saw the small village as the perfect place to escape from the heavy expectations of her family and start a humble, honest life together.
Their complementary skills created a prosperous business. Frederic’s knowledge of medicinal herbs and Violetta’s sharp mind for commerce allowed them to become the primary spice and herbalist merchants in Bixxieton. The townsfolk respected them, not only for their high-quality goods but also for their kindness and reliability. Violetta always remained humble despite their success, prioritizing relationships with her customers and the community over profits, much to her family’s dismay.
Though her past in Blacklam was behind her, she remained in contact with her family, especially her older sister, Nicola. Nicola was more entrenched in the aristocracy and influenced Ulfast’s major trade deals. Violetta’s sister occasionally pressured her to return, proposing lucrative ventures. Violetta would decline, choosing her family’s quiet life in Bixxieton over the splendor and power of Ulfast.
During the aftermath of the Siege of Mylobelle, Frederic returned from the battlefield with an infant girl he had found. Violetta immediately took Imani into her heart and home. She saw the child as a blessing, a gift to fill the spaces left behind by the devastation of war. Violetta took on the role of a doting mother with quiet resilience. Though Imani was not her blood, Violetta’s love for her was profound, and she poured all her maternal instincts into raising her as one of her own. Violetta and Frederic later had two sons, Maks and Ronan.
Imani’s presence, however, came with subtle challenges. The townsfolk and Violetta's family raised questions about the girl’s origins. Many hinted that her presence could lead to not only complications but scandals. Violetta, ever stubborn, ignored their concerns. Her fierce loyalty to Imani never wavered, regardless of the whispers from everyone around her.
When Imani was 11, Violetta disappeared without a trace. It was an event that rocked the Havilland family and the entire village of Bixxieton. Her disappearance was sudden, leaving no clues to her whereabouts or reasoning. Some believed she had been in a fatal accident, while others speculated her disappearance had something to do with her connections to Blacklam’s formidable merchant networks. Her sister, who has a position of considerable influence, sent messengers to investigate her disappearance but found nothing substantial.
Frederic, devastated by his wife’s sudden absence, suspected that her family might be withholding information. Over time, rumors circulated about a potential political or business-related motive behind her vanishing, linking her disappearance to rivalries in Blacklam. A few whispers suggested she had left of her own accord after years of being derided due to Imani’s illegitimacy. Frederic's trust in Violetta and her devotion to their family left him unable to believe she would ever go without a word.
