Sister Esther, Martinet
Never before has a single human been possessed of such a purpose as sister Esther is of her religous service. She seeks not to advance herself through the ranks of the Brotherhood nor meet any form of personal end. She lives an exists as an instrument for which to fulfil the divine purpose of the Brotherhood of Tarn. She is as impersonal as she is ruthless and hunts her goals with the persistence of a trained predator. The only thing that brings her close to joy is the satisfaction she feels for having enacted Tarn will as she fall asleep after a long day of murder and persecution.
Sister Ester, knows of life in the brotherhood and little else. A novitiate from birth her parents were both scribes based in The Keep thy taught her how to read and write. From a young age Esther loved to read and would hungrily devour any piece of writing lore and history she could get her hands on. She developed through this an intensely obscured view of the world; a world whose soul was crying for help, a world who was drowning in its own blood.
In they early days of sorceror persecution she would often run to the front gates to watch parades of paladins enter, bloodied and maimed in battles, often times carrying their dead. Trailing behind them sorcerers shackled like wild animals. In time that's alll she came to see them as. She became a paladin at the age of eighteen and took to riding across Gand with a squadron of other paladins percesuting sorcerers, and heathens. She was instrumental in conducting the seige on the College of Wintrow in which the college was forced into lockdown, magic texts were and artifacts were destroyed and several prolific sorcerers were killed. She was credited with single handedly killing the professor of the magic division, a seasoned and formidable sorceror whom she struck down and executed publically in the college courtyard.
. This would propel her advancement, ultimately taking on the title of martinet and gaining her ow squadron to command. She would then go on to be one of the offensive squadrons to take part in the Siege on the Wordon Homestead during which commanded the deaths of all residents and personally killed Florian Worden before mortally wounding Wylde and leaving him for dead.
Several years later and she would come across reports of Wylde the sorceror resurfacing and killing a paladin during his attempted arrest. Having now escaped death at the hands of the brotherhood three times. Ester finds verself fuelled with a righteous indignation, and a wounded pride at her failure. She feels it is her calling to capture the sorceror and end him for good, although it is against the code of the brotherhood she dreams of killing him before giving him a chance to confess and burning his body trapping him to the earthly coil forever, it is as close as she has ever come to wanting something, if not for Brother Hugo's insistence that he be brought in alive.
Sister Esther is a martinet, which in the Titles within the Worship of Tarn means that she has authority over a group of between 4-6 paladins at her disposal she is able to govern where they go and what tactical actions they take. She can become incredibly callous with their lives when it comes to achieving her goals. But she is not unreasonable and understands that she is serving within a hierarchy. Although Esther is often times callous and impulsive with a strong moral conviction she understands ranks and respects the chain of command. Within the brotherhood itself Esther is regarded highly for her work as a paladin, despite her tendency to extend her authority outside of the code of the brotherhood she has faced reprimand for both agrivating the Goblin and Orc populations (orcs especially as they have amnesty under treaty) as well as burning the bodies of the heathens she has purged. An ill-advised practice as it both disrespects Human Burial Rites and increases the chance for Nadir attacks.
