Brother Hugo, Confessor

Brother Hugo- a man possessed of deep devotion to his practice within the Brotherhood of Tarn. He has been enmeshed in his role long enough for his hair to turn white and his back to bow. He has a lifetime iof experience behind him aimed to develop the perfect method of extracting confession. Don't let his size, nor age, nor physicallity deceive you he is very good at bringing anyone to the brink of his mercy and will only rest when the work is done. But the work is never done.   Hugo is a confessor- his role is overseeing captured heathans by the brotherhood and convincing them to confess their sins and darkest regrets to him. He uses this make the prisoners swear to forsake their life and convert to the worship of Tarn. Once he has done this their should is eternally saved and they may be reformed by death. The methods Hugo uses ranges from manipulative to downright sadistic and he is not above using torture methods to reach his ends. Hugo has converted so many people that he no longer cares to remember their names for faces- bar one- Thoma Worden whom escaped from his care aided by Hugo's then protege Florian Worden, This was the first and only time that Hugo was unable to convert a hethan to the path of Tarn and it haunted him. Even after learning of the Siege on the Wordon Homestead wherein Thoma supposedly died at the hands of Sister Esther, Martinet h was filled with a deep sense of dismay. Several years later Thoma would resurface as Wylde the soceror, and Hugo felt that is was Tarn themself handing him a mission to finish his work and convert him. He worked alongside the high acolytes and put out an official order that he was to be brought in for conversion at his own hands, and now with the inexperienced Sloan Du Mar in Wylde's body he is closer than ever before.   Hugo entered the Brotherhood of Tarn as a young man, although he initially was a part of a group of sorcerers he chose to report them all for amnesty of punishment. He was offered a chance to join as a novitiate and once enrolled in the brotherhood he had a revelation of purpose and swore his life to its service. He went on to advance his way through the titles of the brotherhood discovering a knack for tormenting others, although content with his role he secretly dreams of one day becoming the next Godkin.    Hugo is a sorceror, and has been ordained by the the Godkin, Godkin Hossencroft to use his abilities to serve the brotherhood, an arrangement that is is rare but not unheard of provided that the magic can be rationalised as a gift from Tarn. Hugo is a tacit caster someone who does not need to utter words or draw sigils to cast spells. Like an Asper he has the ability to heal others but unlike an Asper he does not use his own body to split injuries but rather uses the energy of the individual, he is able to tap into someone's energy to heal them expediting their healing but leading the individual incredibly tired and disorientated. He uses this to keep his prisoners unbalanced, by hurting them and leaving them too weak to fortify themselves or by physically hurting someone and healing them wrong, maiming them for life. He has the ability to heal parts of the body as if they were wounds like sealing shut mouths and eyes, he even has been known perform surgery-like tortures on people while they are still awake heading them as quickly as they are cut into and repairing the damage. Hugo is not above depravity and dirty tricks to reach the outcome he wants.

"When were you born, under what moon?" Hugo probed Sloan rolled his head up with considerable effort weighing the value of the information. "Penance." He answered.   "Penance the what?"   "The first, Penance the first"   Hugo smiled at that. All teeth and no eyes. He clucked his tongue. "Ah an unlucky day. They say that the moon you were born under indicates the kind of person you will become, some aspect you will embody. I myself was born on the 14th of Generosity, and by Tarn I have tried to live graciously by that. Sharing my gifts with others guiding them towards Tarn's loving embrace by the bleeding of my own heart"   Sloan tried to scoff but the noise came out as more of a wheeze"and then you kill them" he said   "and then I save them." he corrected "Save their immortal soul. But it is of no consequence to you. Your birth in Penance is perhaps very telling."   Hugo narrowed his eyes "what is it you have to atone for?"
