Fire Elementals

Fire elementals, sometimes called Pyro Elementals in various cultures and kingdoms, are living manifestations of fire. They exist somewhere between magical flame and living flame, embodying both destruction and vitality.

Basic Information

Anatomy

In their weakest state, fire elementals usually appear as small flames or glowing fireballs, often with a faintly visible face flickering within the fire. As they grow stronger, their size and shape expand. Some swell into blazing bonfires, while others develop humanoid features—torsos, arms, heads, or even horns—all sculpted entirely from living fire.

Biological Traits

Fire Elemental pathfinder stats   Fire elementals are living embodiments of flame. Their very presence radiates heat, and anything that comes too close risks being scorched or set alight. They can control this aura intentionally, using it as a weapon to ignite surroundings or burn enemies in combat.   Their bodies are completely immune to fire and fire aligned magic. Attempts to harm them with flame only strengthen their form—those who try to “fight fire with fire” quickly learn that such attacks only fuel the elemental’s fury.   However, as true beings of living flame, they are vulnerable to water. Spells of water or cold disrupt their form, weakening their cohesion and dealing far more damage than such effects would against other creatures.   Pathfinder Rule: Fire elementals have vulnerability to cold and water-based spells.

Growth Rate & Stages

In the physical realm, fire elementals grow as they absorb magical energy. Over decades or centuries, a leyline fire node can give rise to massive elementals—some of the largest known outside of divine influence.   The growth patterns of elementals in the metaphysical and divine realms remain a mystery. Despite their limitless food supply, they vary widely in size, form, and intelligence. Scholars speculate divine beings fixed their forms, while in the metaphysical realm, unknown laws of elemental existence shape their growth.

Ecology and Habitats

Like most elementals, fire elementals exist across three planes of being:
  • Physical Realm – Found near fire ley lines, volcanic regions, or places of intense heat and magical flame.
  • Metaphysical Realm – Reside primarily within the Realm of Fire and other planes steeped in flame and high concentrations of magic.
  • Divine Realm – Associated with the domains of Kasai God of Fire and Analla Goddess of Destrution, where they burn with divine essence.
While they share similar traits across realms, their aura reflects the nature of the plane they dwell in.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Physical Realm: Fire elementals absorb ambient fire mana from the air, radiance from leyline points, or the power stored in fire attuned crystals. Once consumed, these crystals lose their fire aspect and revert to ordinary leyline crystals.   Metaphysical & Divine Realms: Surrounded by endless abundance, elementals naturally draw in the flame essence of their environments, sustaining themselves with little effort.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Physical Realm Their intelligence is similar to animals, instinct-driven and territorial. They are prone to excitement and aggression, more so than many other elementals.   Metaphysical & Divine Realms Larger and more powerful elementals often possess true intelligence. When summoned, huge or greater fire elementals can speak, their voices a crackling blend of roaring flame, burning wood, and rushing wind.   Their personalities are always ignited passionate, extreme, and intense. Whether joyous, wrathful, or slyly sassy, they express emotions in blazing clarity.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Fire elementals perceive the world primarily through thermal vision, reading heat and cold rather than seeing shapes as mortals do. This grants them remarkable awareness in the dark, able to detect even subtle temperature changes.   Other senses include:   Hearing – They perceive sound through vibrations.   Touch – Not like mortal touch; they feel the speed and rhythm of vibrations, sensing movement through ground or air.   Smell/Taste – Absent.
