Supreme Republic of Talle

Similar to that of the United States, the Supreme Republic uses a three-branch structure to government. The Government is headed by the President of the Supreme Republic. A Congress also serves to create the laws of the land and represent the people.

The neutrality of the Supreme Republic has not stopped it from amassing a huge military. The people of the Supreme Republic believe that the country should not get involved in national conflict unless pressed. While the Supreme Republic has never caused an international incident, it will join one to give aid to another nation especially if that nation is fighting against tyranny.

History Prior to the Constitution

The history of the Country of Talle prior to the creation of the Republic is standard of a monarchy. The country was very unassuming and known for very little. During the reign of King Ilcon, the people grew more and more unhappy. The people were impoverished due to the high taxes; anyone who disagreed with the king on the most insignificant details was arrested and execution was the default punishment for crimes. The King’s general and closest friend, Riffin Wayfalls, became disillusioned to the King’s nature after the King ordered him to slaughter an entire village, including women and children, after the King declared it to be a center of insurrection; the village was called Edhenin. After this, Riffin publicly denounces the King, joining the list of names on the King’s kill list, and joins the rebellion. With Riffin’s help, the people overthrow the King.

Creating a Republic

After the king is killed, thirteen of the major cities of Talle unite, bringing in several neighboring villages, and form thirteen States. These states send delegates to Mayminster, the hometown of Riffin and one of the aforementioned States, to take part in a Convention to form a new government. The Convention invites the Dragons to help with the logistics, as the Dragons have an advanced concept of politics. Riffin is also instrumental in the making of the Constitution’s major successes. After the creation of the Supreme Republic, Riffin is elected as the first President. He had a lot of problems on the international front as other countries were unwilling to accept the authority of the President. He chooses Edhenin as the Capitol of the country and rebuilds it. Riffin serves two terms as President and then announces that he will be retiring. Despite this, he wins the next election and capitulates. He serves a third term announces, again, that he will be retiring; he wins another election. When he is told this by the Speaker for the House and President Pro Tempore, he announces to the people that he is turning down the position and the person with the next majority is selected as President. Riffin returns to Mayminster to enjoy his retirement. The next president asks him to accept a Cabinet position, which he turns down. He is also asked to come back in an advisory capacity; however, Riffin states that he fears that if he comes back, it wouldn’t really be an advisory position. In fact, he even said that the constant requests made him afraid that the country wouldn’t be able to move on. Three election cycles after his retirement, he wins another election. He is called back to Edhenin, which makes it the first time he has returned to the Capitol city since he left office. In another meeting with the Speaker and the President Pro Temp., he reaffirms his position that he cannot serve anymore. He returns to Mayminster and six months later, dies of old age. The country mourns for two weeks after his death and his funeral services are held on the Isle of the Gods. He is buried in the Sacred Cemetery on the island of the Mountains of the West.

The Military is commanded by the President of the Supreme Republic, who serves as commander-in-chief. The Military is divided into three branches:

1. Army
2. Navy
3. Air Force

In addition, each State maintains a state militia (National Guard) which can be commandeered by the President when necessary. However, the National Guard does not fall under the Defense Department, but rather the Department of Homeland Security.

The Constitution of the Supreme Republic prevents the Establishment of a State Religion. The citizens have the ability to practice whatever religion they choose.

Foreign relations were hard to establish at first. In a world where monarchies are the norm, a country that overthrew its king and began a new form of government was not well received. The Supreme Republic's first President, Riffin Wayfalls, had a hard time establishing ties with other nations.   In other feats, the Supreme Republic was instrumental in the creation of the Draconic Confederacy.
