Master of Ceremonies

Master of Ceremonies of K’lais

Overseers of Duels & Arenas

Overview

The Master of Ceremonies (MoC) is a prestigious and highly visible position within each district of K’lais. Their primary responsibilities include overseeing Duels, scheduling matches, and ensuring that all Duels and arenas operate smoothly and within the laws of K’lais. They enforce the Irrefutable Rules as well as the Secondary Rules of Dueling.

While some Masters of Ceremonies handle the day-to-day management of the arenas directly, others delegate these tasks to assistants or designated arena staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Duel Oversight: Ensures all Duels are conducted according to the Twelve Irrefutable Rules, secondary rules, and proper protocol.
  • Scheduling: Organizes the timing and location of Duels, both official and public.
  • Arena Management: Oversees the operation of arenas, ensuring lawfulness, safety, and proper conduct.
  • Recordkeeping: Reviews all Duels, generates daily reports, and has access to all registered Duels across districts.

  • Every Master of Ceremonies must be a skilled Duelist.
  • They must be willing to serve as a Champion when requested. As with all Champions, they do have the ability to refuse.

  • Masters of Ceremonies are accorded significant luxury due to the high-risk and high-visibility nature of their duties.
  • Each MoC chooses their own working attire, reflecting personal style while maintaining authority and respect.

Challenges and Succession

  • A being may Challenge the Master of Ceremonies only once per year.
  • Challenges are typically violent and nearly always lethal. They frequently result in the death of one participant.
  • Victory in a Challenge does not automatically grant the position unless the challenger holds the required security clearance.
  • If the challenger lacks clearance, the MoC assistant assumes the role.
  • If the former MoC survives, they may Duel the new MoC to reclaim their position.
