Weapons of Duels

Weapons of K’lais (Duels)

Regulations and Cultural Practices

Overview

Duels on K’lais are strictly melee-based affairs. Only close-combat weapons are permitted, regardless of type or design. The system allows for flexibility, but all weapons must adhere to the rules and be announced prior to the Duel.

Permitted Weapons

The following categories are commonly allowed in Duels:

  • Bladed weapons: swords, sabers, daggers, and similar melee blades
  • Blunt weapons: quarterstaffs, flails, morningstar flails, maces
  • Dual-wielding: a participant may use one or two weapons, provided each is declared before the Duel begins

Any melee weapon can be used. Every K'laisian can choose their own preferred weapon. Most are taught to use a sword in school, where lessons are part of the curriculum.

Restrictions

  • Projectile weapons of any kind (bows, guns, energy-based firearms, etc.) are prohibited in Duels.
  • Only registered projectile weapons are legally owned, and all owners must undergo a psychological evaluation before being allowed possession.

Visitors and Weapon Import

  • Any visitor to K’lais may bring melee weapons without fear of confiscation, questioning, or registration.
  • This allowance includes single or multiple weapons, as long as they comply with melee requirements.

Exceptions

  • Blackmarket weapons exist for those seeking unregistered projectile weaponry.
  • Traditional firearms (using bullets) from Earth or similar planets are mostly unknown to K’laisians. If they are brought to Earth, they are registered. Even if they cannot be recorded like K'laisian weaponry.

Those who go through Processing onto the planet cannot "sneak" them onto the planet. Most are smuggled via mercenaries or other means.

Cultural Notes

  • The strict melee-only rule reflects K’laisian values of honor, skill, and close-quarters combat.
  • Declaring one’s weapon(s) prior to a Duel is both a legal requirement and a ritualistic courtesy.
