Oculix

Archivist's Excerpt from: The Spark that Lit Humanity: The Little We Understand of the Legacy of Our Progenitors, CVI 40

Crudely named by Ellery Hartchild as the "Eye of Light," historically misunderstood by the Galó as a quasi-religious text they called The Dark Illumined Eye, the Oculix is both the final product of many decades worth of research and development on the part of the Grand Colonial Academy of Science and, more specifically, the League of Rookfellows, as well as the first stage and catalyst of the Great Initiative, the object of Infusion of the Halo Liminite Program.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

At its core, the Oculix bears something similar to a Lectral Incandescent, a spheric glass orb with a Liminite filament set inside it, or something very much like that. Around this, the rest of the device seems to be in the form of dials, allowing the exact frequency of lectral energy to be "tuned," in order to adjust the program of Infusion to a precise output. This is apparently how Infusion is achieved without causing lethal Over-Infusion.

History

Little, if any of the Oculix's history is known. Whether it was invented in the Heuridium or discovered in The Expanse or some combination of the two is wholly unknown, as is the timeline. What is known is the heavy-handed involvement of Baron Hiram Lorecroft, and the possible involvement of Agnes Esker.

Rarity

There is only one Oculix, and has only ever been one, so far as anyone knows. Though there is evidence that the Halo Program has existed in the past, it must have been a product of a different method of Infusion
