Infusion
Archivist's Excerpt from: The Spark that Lit Humanity: The Little We Understand of the Legacy of Our Progenitors, CVI 40
Infusion is the means by which Liminal Radiance is used to transmute the matter within a human body itself, generally beginning with portions of the optic nerves and related brain tissues, into a form of Liminite, effectively implanting or "Infusing" the subject with the mineral.
This has a number of effects. It links the neural matrices of the subject with the unfathomable information stored within the eons of Liminite's existence, though to a very limited amount.
However potent, the Infusing effect of specifically-tuned Liminal Radiance is easily diffused into uselessness. Any interruption, no matter how transparent, seems to render the effect inert, even something as simple as eyeglasses.
Regardless, this process can be deadly, if incorrectly calibrated. Over-Infusion, while opening the subject's comprehension to all the information stored within Liminite across all its ageless and fathomless history, including the trillions of minds all interlinked therein, will swiftly burn out the subject's nervous system, causing any number of lethal consequences. A precise lectral frequency and amperage is required when channeling the current through a Liminite filament in order to Infuse a subject, a process certainly mastered in the ancient days by the Progenitors, but hardly so today.
If done correctly, it also records an imprint of the subject's own engramatic mental imprint for storage (essentially, a "mental copy), or Engram. It should be noted that the extensiveness of these effects varies wildly based upon the extent of Infusion the subject has incurred.
It also allows for the implementation of various Liminite Programs, the most famous (or infamous) being the Halo or Lode Programs, but others of a far less cosmic nature exist, as well, such as the Royal Arch.
It should also be noted that Infusion carries with it a cost to the body. Liminal Radiance drains the resources of the system. There seems to be something of an inverse-square correlation to shortened lifespans and the extent of Infusion.
There is one more curious effect of Infusion observed from time to time. While major Confluencial variations are, understandably, passed by unremembered by most people in existence, those who are Infused seem to posses at least a vague, if not exact recollection of the prior Confluence, the extent being dependent on the extent of their Infusion, and perhaps their own proclivity. This, like the mineral itself, gives them a quality of being "unchanged" to a degree.
Lastly, it should be observed that there is no known reversal for the Infusion process, but as for the Programs themselves, see Excerpt on Death Inheritance of Infusion below.
