Lectral Incandescent
Archivist's Excerpt from: Heuridium’s Height: Secret Inventions & Industrial Developments of the Grand Academy of Science’s Hypothetical Division of Possibilities, Nonexistent Edition, CVI 42.4
Regardless of developments in other parts of the world--explained as ruined from a nonexistent apocalypse or otherwise--the lectral incandescent was invented in Orphan Heights by the genius mind of Hiram Lorecroft, Professor in the Grand Colonial Academy of Science, in the year 1894, as the crow flies.
Operating on a simple, yet difficult-to-discover principle regarding vacuums, filaments, and what Lorecroft calls "lectral friction," the process of heat being generated by the flow of electrons across a spun cotton coil.
This, as often happens once bureaucracy gets involved, led to the foundation of an agency, the Corps. of Lectral Incandescent Transitioning, which was responsible for methodically and painstakingly transforming Orphan Heights into an incandescent wonder, until it was all brought to ruin by the actions of one Third Class Engineer and Tramrunner from Harchester in 1897.
Alas.
