Academy of Science Campus

Archivist's Excerpt from: Orphan Heights: An Official History, CVI 42.4

Not unlike the Merchant Circles, the Academy of Science Campus was designed and erected deliberately as a "lofted" structure, that is, on elevated platforms over the lower sections of Orphan Heights, particularly over Bellamy Park, Parliament Hall, Pike Central Bank & Trust, the Constabulatory, etc. This is to symbolize that knowledge has a place over rulership, and the ascended nature of the human intellect.

The Scholars are well known for their humility.

The Academy of Science Campus was built around the great Heuridium Tower's lowest level as it hung from the great arches of Orphan Heights' dome, its most famous and striking feature. In truth, it was never really part of the Academy of Science Campus, predating it by a decade, but came to symbolize all that the Grand Colonial Academy of Science would stand for, and the Heuridium would ... hang for.

So the Campus could be said to "hang between earth and sky," as between Orphan Heights proper and the Heuridium as a great spire above.

The Scholars really ate that one up.

Architecture

The Grand Colonial Academy of Science and its Campus are laid out atop the lofted platforms that interconnect with the Merchant Circles that surround it below, and even with the Heuridium in its center, but it maintains a classical Anglish design of Georgian architecture, heralding an adoration of Roman aesthetics and nobility. Most of the buildings on each platform are linked together, and each platform exists as, essentially, a department unto itself, though many sub-departments are broken up within.
