Dram
Dram is most well-known for its various exported beers and liquors, and for its fighting men and women, who frequently do mercenary work throughout the Northern Kingdoms, and sometimes beyond.
-Drammish mercenaries are in high demand among nations or warlords who can afford them, and military service as a mercenary is a sign of distinction that frequently leads to political appointments upon the fighter's retirement (if they live that long).
-Military experience (and more importantly, renown) is almost the only path to political leadership in the nation.
-Dram's ruler has the title of High Commander and is always ex-military.
-Dram has no standing army and depends on the formation of militias or the loyalty of its mercenary class when it comes to defending its borders.
-The reputation of Dram's population is such that it has not suffered an invasion for over 500 years.
-Dram also has a burgeoning merchant class, especially when it comes to the export of beer and liquor.
-Dram is also well-known for the red hair of much of its populace. Some say this is a sign that Drammish folk are fey-touched, or have some connection to red dragons, a rumor that Drammish mercenaries do nothing to discourage.
