The Pillars of Midnight

The site of an ancient temple, perhaps of giant-build, which has since been taken over by forces loyal to the demon lord Anubhak, specifically a cult calling themselves the Hand of Naraash, which has been consolidating forces with which to strike out at other cities, starting with the "lost colony" of Akama. The Hand of Naraash recently suffered a crushing loss at the hands of a group of Adventurers, retainers of the Tarrus the One-Eyed, who slew Naraash himself, the cult's chief religious leader. In doing so, they discovered that there was a curse which caused whoever slew the previous cult leader to inherit the identity and title of Naraash. The curse was ended when, due to the magic of the party's sorceress, Tarmul himself was called to the material plane to inhabity the corpse of one his slain clerics. The possessed body struck the killing blow on the paladin Jaryn, the most recent victim of Naraash's curse. However, once the curse was passed, Tarmul released control of his servant, causing her to fall once more to lifelessness, and dissipating Naraash's spirit. It remains to be seen what the loss of their spiritual leader along with several key military figures who were also killed in the assault will do to the cult's organization and plans for conquest.

Architecture

The Pillars of Midnight appears to get its name from the four massive obsidian pillars that stand outside the mountain temple, so tall that they appear to hold up the very sky itself.
