Shaw
Wizard of the Wardens
Shaw is a noble native of the Heartlands, her family own extensive lands around the town of Coxcomb north of Lakorth. As Novyum tradition dictates, all noble children inherit the family title, making her a countess by right. A title she ran away from in her youth. She is childhood friends with Doyle, a fellow member of the Walker's Wardens. A bond that still holds as strong today. The two spent their youth 'adventuring' around their town, vowing to go on real adventuring one day together. Their inseparable friendship, and the political suave match, Doyles father being a leading tax collector of the region, meant their families arranged them for marriage when they reached their majority. The two had other plans. They ran away together, Doyle joining the clergy and Shaw seeking her dream of becoming a Wizard. She was accepted into Dover College and the two parted ways.
Shaw excelled in her studies, becoming an accomplished caster. That, along with her noble lineage, handed her a pick of careers when she graduated. Wanting to do more and have her adventures, however, she joined a Corps to fight in the Novyum. By chance, or fate, she joined the Corps of the Oath, a mercenary band that had just been assigned a cleric by the Church, Doyle. The two friends were reunited just in time to have their first true adventure together. Fate had other plans. The Corps of the Oath walked into an ambush in the Plashin Range and were slaughtered.
Doyle pulled a gravely wounded Shaw from the battle, fleeing into the mountains. Days of travel saw Shaw in and out of consciousness, barely alive. With luck Doyle came across Oates, hiding Shaw in a room where he treated her wounds and recovered himself. As Shaw recovered the two decided adventuring was not for them. They would settle down in this remote town hidden away from the horrors of the world. Again, fate played a part in their path.
Other survivors of the disastrous campaign stumbled into the town over the weeks that followed. Rose, a warrior of the corps, who had taken Shaw under her wing when the wizard first joined the corps. Walker, a ranger, who Shaw became infatuated with as soon as they meet. Later the ariean (Elf) Davlark would join them. Davlark had a Plasha warband on his tail, leading them right to Oates. This forced the survivors to fight for their life once more, defending the town from the attack.
In the aftermath of the battle, Shaw and Walker drew closer. He had planned to go his own way after he recovered from the fight. But would later claim he could not go anywhere if Shaw wasn't there also. She had decided to stay in Oates, so he would also. Though there was jealous tension between him and Doyle at first, the two became fast friends. Instead of fighting for Shaw, Doyle knew his friend's heart. He supported the new couple. Doyle and Shaw's plan to remain in Oates, though altered, remained, and the other survivors agreed they had had enough of the endless bloodshed of war. The trio, along with Rose and Davlark became the Corps of Oates, later changing the name to Walker's Wardens. They set their path as adventurers in the Plashin Range, and the defenders of Oates.
A decade after they met and gathered as an adventuring party Shaw and Walker married. The old Lakortha tower above Oates that had been the groups base of operations was gifted to the couple on their wedding, becoming Walker Castle. In later years the Estate House would be added to the site for the couple to retire and raise a family in.
Though she ran from her nobility in youth, Shaw came to terms with it as she grew older. Today her countess title has come to rest on her shoulders in a new way, as Countess of Oates. She no longer adventures and is more involved with Kingdom of Oates politics, working often with her dearest friends Doyle and Rose to grow the fledgling kingdom.
