Rose

Fighter of the Wardens

Relationship History

Rose was a fighter from the day she was able to pick up a sword as a child. She grew up in the Eastern Petty Kingdoms, moving from town to town with her parents, just ahead of one raid after another. In a constant state of survival, her mother was always working in taverns to make a living. Sometimes she would not return home until the next morning with extra coin. Her father took jobs in local militias. He had been a seasoned adventurer, and skilled warrior before she was born. Their luck ran out when she was just into her teen years. The village was overrun and her parents killed. She ran. A guilt that haunts her even today.

She was obsessed with revenge and getting her father's sword for the man that took it. When she finally got her hands on the sword, she found it broken. Rose found herself as broken as the sword she sheathed on her hip after. Trained by her father she joined whatever mercenary group or corps that would take her, eventually finding herself in the Corps of the Oath.

In the corps she found a kinship in a young wide-eyed Wizard called Shaw. The two became fast friends, with Rose's bitter outlook balancing, and even complementing, Shaw innocent view of life. Ironically these roles reversed after the fall of the corps in the ill-fated attack of the Plasha village that saw most of the group slaughtered. Though separated, the two friends found their way to the town of Oates after the battle. Shaw tasting 'real life' for the first time left a cynical spark in her. As Rose said about the defeat, in an interview years after, "It was just another day of my life." However, a happy spark had grown in Rose, she had found love in another survivor, the Elf known as Davlark.

Davlark, however, was not a kind lover. He was dismissive of her and belittled Rose often, seeing her as little more than a Human plaything. Something he would say to her face. Yet, like so many things in her life, Rose was blindly obsessed in the relationship. Doyle, Shaw's childhood friend, and their fellow companion from the corps would say that she was obsessed with the feeling of love in her, rather than the man. She remained devoted to Davlark however, even as she and Doyle's friendship grew. He was soft and kind, always supporting her and making her feel seen. Something she had never felt before. Something she also found very uncomfortable feeling. Doyle had also fallen madly in love with Rose, though she felt none of that in return.

The group, along with Walker, Shaw's future husband, formed the Walker's Wardens, making Oates their home. The Wardens were a good team in the field, becoming famous throughout the Plashin Range as heroes of the people. Rose was instrumental in the Wardens defending Oates from attack and the founding of the Kingdom of Oates, that would, in theory, prevent future attacks by having an organized government and fighting force. As always, she through all of herself into making sure this new kingdom survived and thrived. Saying later, "It could give other children the childhood I never had."

During this time that Davlark turned on Rose and the other Wardens. Rose though she was pregnant. Davlark demanded she get rid of it. He did not want a half-blood child. Though she found out she was not pregnant, Davlark felt she betrayed him by refusing to abort if she were. He also saw the other Wardens as traitors for siding with her in this fight. There had always been tension in the group. Both Walker and Doyle had confronted Davlark for his arrogance over the years. In Walkers case it had even come to blows. Davlark was also very aware of Doyles love for, and loyalty to, Rose. He betrayed and abandoned the Wardens, leaving a devastated Rose.

After Shaw's marriage to Walker, she and Rose had grown distant as she prioritized her marriage. This had led Rose to draw closer to her other friend, Doyle. A supporting ear through all the years. After Davlark's betrayal she let Doyle replace him, even with her lack of feelings for him romantically. This became an on again, off again relationship. She tried other men over the years, but they did not last, and she would find her way back to Doyle's bed. This would take its toll, however, and each time it pushed them farther apart. The two only see each other at group dinners in Walker Castle, or at kingdom council meetings today. Part of her realizes Doyle may have been the love of her life, but she refused to admit she ruined what could have been a happy life for herself. She no longer seeks comfort in relationships, instead throwing herself into her work for Oates.

Today, retired from active adventuring, like the other Wardens, she lives in a small home in Oates, working as a schoolteacher for the town's children. Something that has given her a peaceful spirit at long last. She can see children grew in peace, mentoring those she can. Rose also is deeply committed to the protection of that peace, working with Oate's militia to keep it a strong fighting force. King @[Cole Vyeda](person:0228cb10-5f64-4c65-b408-1fe16d8ba601, who appointed her as head of his royal guard.

Her father's broken sword, once never leaving her side, hangs on the wall in her room in Walker Castle. She has found a home and a rest for her warrior spirit.
