Plashin Range (PLAH shin)

the Novyum Divide

The Plashin Range, sometimes called the Novyum Divide, or the Spine of Novyum, is a mountain range running north to south that divides the Heartlands of Novyum on the west, with the mountainous lands of Slavyum to the east. The range is difficult to cross due to its steep slopes and high altitudes. Its northernly location means it is permanently covered in icy snow and glaciers, adding to the difficulty. The central mountains of the range are some of the tallest mountains on the continent. This puts travelers in the death zone where air is thin and icy storms are frequent, even in the relative safety of Plashin Pass.

The northern mountains of the range are tall with steep slopes and deep valleys. In the valleys where there are no glaciers are thick forested wetlands. During winter travel is dangerous as flash storms can appear out of the Piercing Ocean with little warning. These storms often spread to cover much of the northern region around the mountains as they butt up against the central great peaks.

The range's southern peaks average at 2600 feet, what many call the death zone. They run south, connecting with Whidel's Wall, along the eastern coast of Ubara's Arm. Whidel's Wall ends at the Boran Peninsula that reaches into the Aabanu Sea.

The range is all the harsher for travel due to the Plash Orchold Orc and native Plasha people that dwell in these mountains. Centuries of genocide attempts have dwindled their numbers but made both groups a deadly people to any that threaten them. It should be warned that armed travelers into the Plashins may find themselves in more danger than those would travel unable to defend themselves. This is due two both these cultures surviving endless extermination attempts over the generations.

Due to the harsh environment, and the threat of the natives, most travel between the Heartlands and Slavyum have historically been by sea. In the modern day Plashin Pass gives a road, albeit danger, across. Lechlan ferries across Ubara's Arm into Undermountain Pass also provide away through the mountain.
