Ngissu
Shadow Demons
Once thought to be native creatures of Etu Enur, modern scholars and theologians now understand that the Ngissu are the castoff remains of the entity known as the Shadow Fiend, the Avatar of Elilli of the Nod Noch Nine. The Shadow Fiend is created when one of Elilli's worshippers scarifies himself deep in Etu Enur for his master. When Elilli is done with the shadowy body he uses, it is discarded. The strongest willed of these worshippers can focus their consciousness, as their master did, to reform their former body out of the shadowy essence they have become. A Ngissu is born.
Ngissu dwell in Etu Enur, within the Deep Shadowfell between that realm and Kur There they live in a state of semiconsciousness, drifting formless, waiting for the call of Elilli. Once tasked, the set out into Etu Enur to serve their master. Their duties are vast and hidden from mortal eyes. Though they are not bound to the realm as Aggoles are bound within Kur, Ngissu remain in Etu Enur as much as possible. They are in a state of constant suffer when in the material world, expending great effort to remain solid in their shadowy bodies. The Anon (Magic) itself seeming to continually try to tear the abominations apart.
Some Ngissu send their Gissu'mi to act as advisors to powerful wizard or cult members on the behest of Elilli. Most hate their time and connection to the mortal world, and their mortal lord. Should their master wish it, Gissu'mi would gladly slay the one they are bond to. Most wait and watch, looking for anything the mortal may do that will displease Elilli or their Ngissu overlord. Legends claim Ngissu only come to Aldern to claim the mortals that displeased them, slain by their Gissu'mi. They drag these people, body and soul, through Etu Enur into the depths Beyond Aldern. These tales are common enough that one would question any wizard accepting one of these 'servants' into their retinue.
Creatures born of the sheer will and intelligence, many of these shadow demons have plots and intrigues of their own. They are eternally bound to Elilli, their very existence depends on him, but that does not mean they do not scheme and have plans of their own. This is especially true for the Ngissu that are forced to remain connected to the material world for long periods of time. Elilli will recall Ngissu to their shadowy realm, not for them to rejuvenate and strengthen, as he claims, but rather to keep the too ambitious demons from getting any ideas of personal power.
Ngissu appear physically as humanoids of solid shadow, rarely clothed in anything more than wisping shadows around their lower half. Like their creator, all Ngissu have glowing eyes the color of flames burning deep inside. On the rarest occasions that a Ngissu must come to the material plane, storms of dull light swirl through their bodies, the Anon burning them as it disintegrates their form
