Shadowfell
The Shadow Crossings
A Shadowfell is a location on Aldern where the barriers between the material world and the realm of Etu Enur is weaker, allowing aspects of both realities to leach into each other. This is usually a location that has suffered a catastrophic Magic event sometime in the past, such as the ancient location of Noch where, according to legend, battles of the Aggelomachy left scars in reality.
On Aldern, Shadowfells are dark places where light seems to dim, and colors fade away. An eternal mist confuses travelers. Etu Enur bleeds its despair into the land. Entering a Shadowfell does not mean one will suddenly find themselves in the other realm, they simply feel the effects of the other side within. These locations bonds Etu Enur to Aldern however, and with the right magics they are the locations one can physically travel between Etu Enur and Aldern.
The Shadowfells in Etu Enur, have something of the opposite effect. Light seeps into the realm, though weak and dim. Shadowy aspects of the landmarks from Aldern appear, such as, sickly trees, decaying building, and so on. As a mortal in their reality might feel unease in the Shadowfell, they feel a sliver of life and hope in the Shadowfell in Etu Enur.
Deep within Etu Enur where they barrier between that reality and Kur there are also weak points. Scholars called these Deep Shadowfell as well. Deep Shadowfell are vile places in a land already full of despair. Like those touching Aldern, Deep Shadowfell also bleed some of the other realm's reality into themselves. In the case of Kur, an eternal prison, its Shadowfells trap those entering. Their souls slowly dissipating in eternal anguish. They are a blackhole Etu Enur. Only the Ngissu are known to be able to dwell within and escape.
