Bahamut's Empire (Baja mot's empyre)
The History of the Bahamutian Empire
Founding and First Clashes with Tiamat
(ca. 2340 BDT - ca. 1800 BDT)
To the east of Leviathan's Spine, it is said that one day the great dragon god Bahamut descended upon Occalis. Bearing an egg, he laid it in what is now known as The Old Capital and created his lair. For 300 years, the Platinum Dragon nurtured the egg while sharing his immense knowledge of magic and architecture with the nearby inhabitants. These people constructed a grand city in his honor, a near utopia where humans, draconids, and beasts coexisted in harmony. It was during this time that the Beastmen were born, forever altering the cultural fabric of Occalis. Bahamut’s peace would be shattered by his eternal rival, Tiamat. Initially, the Platinum Dragon offered her gifts and protection, yet she repaid his kindness with betrayal. While Bahamut tended to matters in the south, Tiamat destroyed the capital, leaving piles of mangled bodies and razing the city to ash. Only one egg, the one Bahamut carried, survived the massacre. Enraged and grieving, Bahamut swore vengeance, gathering survivors to mount a crusade and retrieve the stolen eggs.
The Great Recovery War and Bahamut’s Ascension
(ca. 1800 BDT - 1650 BDT)
The Great Recovery War saw Bahamut lead righteous crusaders into Tiamat's domain. Over 250 years, their battles reshaped the very landscape of northern Occalis. Deserts turned to lakes, mountains to canyons, and the land became a place of harsh extremes where only the toughest creatures thrived. Bahamut reclaimed the Metallic Dragons' eggs, but before recovering the Chromatic Dragons' eggs, Tiamat enlisted the help of the goddess Ishtar. In his humanoid form, Bahamut was grievously wounded by a dagger forged from a Tarrasque’s claw. Retreating to the village of Myteberk, Bahamut used his last strength to raise the Great Walls of Myteberk ascending to godhood. On the day of his ascension, the egg he carried hatched into the first Bahamutian Emperor, Enkidu Bahamut
Development of Myteberk and the First Great Expansion
(1650 BDT - 1600 BDT)
Under Emperor Enkidu’s rule, Myteberk flourished. The city, fortified by the walls of Bahamut, became a beacon of prosperity and cultural achievement. Crime, poverty, and squalor were eradicated, and the Azure Dragoon Corps, an elite military force, was established to protect the empire from draconic threats. The empire expanded northward, reclaiming abandoned citadels like Caer Morten. However, these incursions provoked Tiamat, who awoke and slaughtered Emperor Haurchefant I, forcing the empire to retreat. Despite this setback, the empire’s foundations remained strong, setting the stage for future growth.
The Lost Six Centuries
(1600 BDT - 1000 BDT)
Little is known about this enigmatic era, but the empire continued to grow, reaching its southern border at Mirkvale and founding the city of Oestbruck east of the capital. These centuries remain shrouded in mystery, with few records surviving.
Manifest Destiny and the Dwarven Compact
(1000 BDT - 250 BDT)
Driven by expansionist fervor, the Bahamutian Empire pushed westward, conquering beasts and monsters to approach Leviathan's Spine. During this period, the empire forged a historic alliance with the Dwarves of Leviathan, culminating in the Dwarven Compact of 275 BDT. The dwarves retained their autonomy while constructing the magnificent Gate of Sigmar, enabling future expeditions into uncharted lands.
Leviathan's Expedition and Sigmar's Sacrifice
(230 BDT - 15 ADT)
Under Emperor Sigmar, the Bahamutian Expedition ventured westward, establishing settlements and encountering the mysterious Noctians. Though initial communications were amicable, Sigmar vanished for nearly two centuries. When he reappeared, pursued by an undead horde, he made his final stand at the Gate of Sigmar, transforming into a great purple dragon to destroy the path and halt the undead invasion. His sacrifice remains one of the most celebrated acts of heroism in the empire’s history.
Rebuilding, Revolts, and Border Skirmishes
(15 ADT - Present)
The empire faced great turmoil after Sigmar’s death. While rebuilding from the undead invasion, Beastmen Kingdoms in the south declared independence, and Tiamat’s forces attacked Caer Morten. By 300 ADT, the empire stabilized and became more isolationist, focusing on fortifying its borders and preparing for future conflicts with Tiamat and her allies.
