Bahamut: The Platinum Dragon

Origins of the Platinum Dragon

Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon, has roamed the lands of since time immemorial. Though much about his early actions remains shrouded in mystery, his influence is undeniable in shaping Occalis and guiding its earliest peoples. Legend speaks of a time when Bahamut descended from the heavens to lay a single egg in the towering mountains of Occalis. For 300 years, the great dragon tended to the egg, sharing his vast knowledge of magic, architecture, and governance with the inhabitants of the region.   These people, inspired by his wisdom, built a magnificent city in his honor—a utopia where humans, draconids, and beastfolk thrived in harmony. It was during this era that the first beastmen were said to have emerged, a living testament to Bahamut's vision of unity.

The Betrayal of Tiamat

“Upon his return, Bahamut found the city razed, its inhabitants slain, and the eggs of countless dragons either smashed or stolen.”
Bahamut's peace was shattered when he encountered Tiamat, his eternal rival. At first, Bahamut sought to ally with her, offering his protection and gifts. But Tiamat, driven by jealousy and malice, betrayed the Platinum Dragon. Entrusting her to guard his precious egg while he traveled south to tend to human affairs, Bahamut returned to find devastation.   The once-thriving capital lay in ruins, its streets drenched in blood. The eggs of many dragons had been stolen or destroyed, save for the one Bahamut had brought to Occalis. Overcome with rage and grief, Bahamut vowed to exact vengeance on Tiamat and recover the stolen eggs. Thus began the Great Recovery War.

The Great Recovery War (ca. 1800 BDT - 1650 BDT)

For 250 years, Bahamut waged war against Tiamat. Their battles reshaped the very landscape of northern Occalis, creating vast deserts, deep canyons, and towering lakes. His armies, composed of righteous crusaders, pushed deep into Tiamat’s domain. Bahamut recovered the eggs of the Metallic Dragons, but before he could retrieve the remaining Chromatic Dragon eggs, Tiamat sought divine aid.   Calling upon the goddess Ishtar, Tiamat deceived Bahamut into assuming his humanoid form. Seizing the opportunity, she struck him with a dagger forged from a Tarrasque’s claw. Gravely injured, Bahamut retreated with his forces to the village of Myteberk. There, he used his remaining strength to create the Great Walls of Myteberk a monumental barrier to protect his followers.   As his mortal body succumbed to his wounds, Bahamut transcended, shedding his physical form and ascending to godhood. Legend holds that at the moment of his ascension, the egg he had carried finally hatched, giving birth to Enkidu Bahamut , the first Bahamutian Emperor.
