Tiamat
Tiamat: The Rainbow Dragon
The Mother of Occalis
“She was once the most beautiful and terrifying thing to ever grace Occalis, a being whose scales shimmered like a thousand sunsets. Tiamat, the Rainbow Dragon, disappeared into the mists of time, but her legacy still haunts the land.”While Bahamut is considered the father of Occalis, Tiamat is regarded as its mother. Settling in the northern reaches of the continent, Tiamat took up residence in the , a sprawling and ancient region where dragons are said to still roam in numbers not seen anywhere else in the world. Her roost, amidst the jagged peaks and verdant lakes, is a place where the winds carry the scent of her elemental breath. Here, she lives among her brood, a truly enigmatic and dangerous being, ever-changing and elusive.
The Rainbow Dragon
Tiamat is often referred to as the Rainbow Dragon by those fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to have witnessed her grandeur. Unlike Bahamut , who embodies the Platinum Dragon with his firm principles of justice and law, Tiamat is a unique and powerful entity. She is said to possess mastery over all elemental magicks and breath attacks, each one embodying the fury of fire, frost, lightning, acid, and poison. But it is not just her elemental might that makes her fearsome—it is the ever-shifting hues of her scales, which constantly change color, mesmerizing and terrifying all who lay eyes upon her. Some say her form is so radiant that it can blind the unprepared. These very traits have earned her the reputation of being impenetrable, as few have ever ventured close enough to learn more about her true nature. The Early Years of Tiamat's Presence (ca. 2340 BDT - ca. 1900 BDT)
Much like Bahamut’s arrival, Tiamat’s influence on Occalis would begin around ca. 2340 BDT. As Bahamut descended upon the continent, bringing wisdom and peace, Tiamat, too, would settle in the northern lakelands. The two mighty dragons, in their early encounters, shared moments of alliance, possibly even affection, as various accounts suggest they met frequently within the grand halls of The Old Capital. While surviving records are unclear, many recount the two beings sharing a bond—one of camaraderie, mutual respect, and even romantic undertones, though this remains a point of contention among scholars. The nature of their relationship remains shrouded in secrecy, with some suggesting they were more than mere allies. The Betrayal and the Shattering of Peace (ca. 1900 BDT)
“Upon his return, Bahamut found the city razed, its inhabitants slain, and the eggs of countless dragons either smashed or stolen.” The friendship between Bahamut and Tiamat , however, was destined to fracture. What led to this breach is still a matter of much debate. Was it Tiamat’s own ambition? Was she betrayed by Bahamut’s growing influence in the south? Or did the forces of destiny simply demand their inevitable conflict? Regardless of the cause, what followed would set the stage for the Great Recovery War and the eventual destruction of The Old Capital. While the exact sequence of events remains murky, one thing is certain: Tiamat turned on Bahamut. She would raze the capital, laying waste to all Bahamut had worked to create. In a destructive blitz, her elemental power overwhelmed the city’s defenses. Buildings were toppled, lives were lost, and Bahamut's brood was torn asunder. Only one egg, Bahamut’s own, would survive this horrific massacre. This cataclysmic event ignited the fury of Bahamut, leading to a long and bloody conflict that would come to be known as the . The devastation wrought by Tiamat’s attack would lead to an era of prolonged war between the two dragons, each wielding unmatched power. The War and the Northern Slumber (ca. 1900 BDT - ca. 1300 BDT)
After the bloody clashes between Bahamut and Tiamat, with landscapes scarred and countless lives lost, the Great Walls of Myteberk were erected to hold back the tides of war. While Bahamut and Tiamat would face each other in countless battles, no decisive victory ever came. It was during this deadlock that Tiamat made her fateful move—seizing the Citadel of Caer Morten , a crucial stronghold of Bahamut’s forces, before vanishing into the northern wastes. No one truly knows what transpired during Tiamat’s long disappearance. Some believe she retreated into the depths of her lair, content to rest and reflect. Others say she returned to her roost to brood, quietly building her strength. Regardless, after the , Tiamat would disappear from the public eye for centuries. Her absence led many to believe she had either been defeated or gone into hiding. Myths of her return were whispered, but for the most part, she became a tale, a legend passed from one generation to the next.A New Era, A New Threat (ca. 1300 BDT - ca. 600 BDT)
Tiamat’s silence lasted for over six centuries. During this time, the dragon population in northern flourished, and many speculate that the were Tiamat’s doing. As dragons began to reclaim the northern landscapes, the world turned its gaze away from the north, thinking Tiamat’s presence was merely a myth, a remnant of a forgotten age. However, in the final years of the , Tiamat reemerged—slaying Emperor Haurchefant I in a display of unparalleled power at . Her actions confirmed that she had returned, though the reasons for her reappearance are unclear. Some claim it was an act of vengeance, others believe she seeks to reclaim her dominion over the land. as she vanishes once again into the shadows of Occalis. Her name is a whisper, a fear, a myth—and though she may be more legend than reality to many, the fear of her return lingers.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
