The Old Capital of Occalis: The Rise, Fall, and Legacy of Bahamut's Lair

The Arrival of Bahamut and the Founding of the Old Capital (ca. 2340 BDT - ca. 2200 BDT)

"In the shadow of Leviathan’s Spine, the Platinum Dragon descended, bearing an egg that would give birth to a city and a legacy."

  To the east of Leviathan's Spine , in a fertile valley surrounded by towering peaks, the great dragon god Bahamut , the Platinum Dragon, descended upon the land of Occalis. Bearing a sacred egg in his claws, Bahamut found the site that would become the heart of his divine influence and laid his egg, creating his lair at the center of what would eventually be known as The Old Capital.

The Betrayal of Tiamat and the Fall of the Old Capital (ca. 2200 BDT - ca. 1800 BDT)

"And from the ashes of the city, only sorrow remained. Betrayal is the most wounding of all cuts, even for gods."

The peace and prosperity of Bahamut's Roost would not last forever. Tiamat, harbored envy toward her kin's power and the unity he had brought to Occalis. Initially, Bahamut had extended an olive branch to Tiamat, offering her gifts and protection in hopes of forging an alliance. He believed that together, they could create a world of peace and prosperity.   But Tiamat's heart was filled with treachery. Betraying Bahamut's kindness, she launched a devastating attack on the Old Capital while Bahamut was away in the southern regions, further expanding his influence. In one fell swoop, Tiamat’s forces, led by her dark dragons and followers, laid waste to the city. The once-glorious spires and halls of Bahamut’s Roost were reduced to smoldering ruins.   The attack was swift and brutal. Tiamat’s forces slaughtered Bahamut’s followers, leaving the streets strewn with mangled bodies. The entire city was razed to the ground, reduced to nothing but ash and ruins. Only one thing survived—Bahamut’s precious **egg**, which remained untouched amidst the devastation, a symbol of hope and continuity for the Platinum Dragon.

The Start of the War (ca. 1800 BDT)

"From the embers of betrayal, war was born—a war that would rage for generations."

  The destruction of Bahamut's Roost marked the beginning of an unrelenting conflict. The razing of the city by Tiamat ignited a war that would engulf Occalis and the surrounding lands for generations. Bahamut, devastated by the loss of his city and the betrayal of his kin, swore vengeance against Tiamat and her followers. l   The attack on the Old Capital by Tiamat was not only a personal betrayal but also a declaration of war that would alter the course of history for Occalis. The shattered remnants of the once-glorious city became a symbol of the ongoing struggle, and the conflict between Bahamut and Tiamat raged for centuries, leaving scars on the land and the people that would never fully heal.

The Legacy of the Old Capital

"The ruins stand as a silent testament to a lost world, and to the unyielding will of the Platinum Dragon."

  The fall of Bahamut's Roost marked the end of an era for Occalis, but its memory has never been forgotten. The ruins of the Old Capital remain a place of reverence for Bahamut's followers, and to this day, many journey to the site to pay homage to the Platinum Dragon. Some believe that the sacred egg Bahamut once protected still lies hidden in the ruins, waiting for the moment when the Platinum Dragon will return to restore what was lost.   Though the capital city was destroyed, Bahamut’s legacy endures in the hearts of those who continue to honor his teachings. The Beastmen , too, who survived the destruction, remain an integral part of the world, as their creation continues to shape the cultural identity of Occalis and beyond.   The story of **Bahamut's Roost** serves as a powerful reminder of the fleeting nature of peace, the consequences of betrayal, and the indomitable will of a god determined to protect those he loves. It remains one of the greatest tragedies in the history of Occalis—and one of the driving forces behind Bahamut’s eternal struggle against Tiamat.
