Karnol Caretakers
A major faction that is run by robots, highly curious about organics.
The Karnol Confederation, many years ago, built an AI that was designed to perform many household duties as well as various jobs. As it proved itself capable of these tasks, it was eventually given more and more complex tasks. Eventually, they would overtake the organics themselves and lead them. Their star nation would turn into the Karnol Caretakers, and the AI would run Karnol society very efficiently.
Most of the organic population of the KC would live in their home system, several larger colony planets as well as various massive worldships. The latter of these would give them much better mobility in case a threat managed to threaten their planets.
In Karnol culture, organics rarely perform work. Organics never rise up against the AI, and the AI never attempts to kill organics. The KC robots make sure their living standard is very high and attempt to make them as happy as possible. The problem of obesity is solved with advanced, automated medical care. Many other races are seen in KC society. A lot of these people are either very old and want to retire or very lazy. Due to this, the KC has most sentient species in its population, but mainly Gagarag.
Despite their efficiency, the KC only occupies a relatively small number of galaxies and are about as powerful as the Hyperion Federation militarily. They are allies with the HF and Sulethis Republic though. This AI, known as Caretakers, are individually sentient and are not hive minded. They communicate to each other using radio-like machines.
The Karnol Caretakers, unlike any other non-gestalt faction, have no leader or leading party. The Caretakers can very efficiently communicate to each other across interstellar distances. Karnol military starships are also excellently coordinated between many different Caretaker units. Although this technocally is not a gestalt, as every Caretaker has their own consciousness, they can behave as one at times and take many of the advantages of a gestalt. This allows them to seem almost like an anarchial society. There are laws put in place to prevent crime among Gagarag, and caretakers often take up the police role to further reduce crime. Although the KC can easily seem quite utopic, most people who live in it have little ambition or life goals. They can also be quite antisocial, leading them to become slightly depressed as they slowly lose their social dependancy genetics. Due to this, it is sometimes known among tourists as 'the place where dreams go to die'. When one enters, they usually become very confortable with the conditions and never want to leave. In terms of military technology, the KC is considered very middle-of-the-range. Althought their military technologies are considered average, they do have one notable example technologywise, in the form of the Integrity Field Generator (IFG). Devices like these can strengthen most materials that are placed near it, effectively allowing them to 'charge' their armour to protect it from incomming gunfire. This gives them a relatively large advantage in armour technologies.
