Haraya

"On Haraya the Empire was birthed: in the utterance of Anitaga, in the work of the Tagápulo."

Haraya is a sacred mountain to the Tagápulo, the place where they first began their conquest of Pulo and the islands beyond. According to imperial historians, it was upon Haraya that Anitaga, lord of the Anito, commanded the first Emperor of the Tagápulo to gather the peoples of the islands beneath a single law, just as Anitaga had gathered the gods and spirits of the Anito beneath his rule. From that command, Anitaga was revered as the patron god of the Empire, his name invoked before every battle, and Haraya was forever remembered as the Empire's birthplace.

Due to this history, Haraya is one of the sacred anchors of the Empire. While the Imperial family goes to the caverns beneath Alitaya to consult with their ancestors, they look to Haraya for the authority to rule. Every ruler of the Tagápulo Empire is crowned in Anitaga's temple, and must have the god's favor to ascend the throne. Additionally, they journey to Haraya every fifth year of their reign, to present themselves to Anitaga and reaffirm their mandate to rule. Only twice in the Empire's history has this mandate been revoked, both times for the gravest offenses: the betrayal of kin and the profanation of Anitaga's sacred law.

Notable Spirits

Haraya is the earthly anchor of Anitaga, ruler of the Anito and patron god of the Tagápulo Empire. It is also the dwelling most closely associated with the Liwâta - the spirits who bear Anitaga's authority. Drawn from both the ancestors of the Tagápulo and the spirits of land and sea, the Liwâta are charged with carrying out Anitaga's edicts in The Dream and among the Anito. Their order mirrors that of the Empire itself, and they are counted among the most honored of the Anito within the imperial temples.

Geography

Haraya is an active volcano with three great peaks. The temple of Anitaga stands high upon its slopes, reached by a pilgrim's road that winds steadily up the mountain. Taller than all the surrounding peaks, Haraya offers from its temple an unbroken view of the lands below, overlooking the whole of the region.

A wondrous location with a rich history and I enjoy its continued relevance. I like the touch about the five year renewal as well, that's an interesting piece of context and a unique dynamic upon the idea of a 'Divinely chosen' ruler like you would expect such an empire to have.

Thanks! I’ve spent some time thinking about how very present and active gods get involved in politics, and this was one of my variations.

I am so curious as to what the previous rulers did to have their right to rule revoked.

It's going to come up when I do the succession fight - there are rules of engagement when dealing with your family members that can result in a revocation of your ruling mandate. Now, if someone was clever enough to trick their sibling into an unpardonable offense....

Another nice one.
Since Haraya is an active volcano and the temple stands on its slopes, I wonder if there are any precautions in place for earthquakes, or if any of the thermal energy created by the magma beneath is used. Or is the red flow used for any aesthetic purposes?

Welcome to our beautiful, rich and fertile mountain. I hope you like the gods, because they can see you here. If they like you, they may even guide you!

They aren't using the thermal energy yet, and the temple is constructed to withstand earthquakes, which are generally buffered by the gods who want it to persist.

So no "Hot-Spring-Bathing-Reserve" for now? Ah well, I guess godly protection will sufficent to attract some visitors ^^
