The Domusancs of Daeamorant
Overview
Within the country of Daeamorant are five great Domusancs, each of which presides over a segment of the country and is led by its individual Oratician.
Whenever matters of national importance are to be discussed, these Domusancs convene at the base of the Divine Spire, in the Hall of Jurisdiction. There, they discuss matters of State that are beyond the realm of individual Oraticians, and affect the country as a whole.
The Domusancs hold secular power in Daeamorant, but are unavoidably interwoven with the religious framework of the country. Daeamorant has a fervent belief in the Divine, and for a Domusanc to act without consideration of the celestial and the laws of divinity is generally ill-advised, for it is a surefire way to not only turn your common folk against you but also expose an easily exploitable weakness to other Domusancs of the realm.
This situation means that the Pontiff of the Intellectus Divinus, the great church of Daeamorant, holds a significant deal more power as an individual than any one particular Oratician of a Domusanc. While they do not function as a true ruler, the necessity for consideration of the divine and the church means that Domusancs are generally deferential to the Pontiff, should there be a divide in opinion. However, the overwhelming majority of the population, including those of noble station, are indeed devout in their beliefs.
As one might guess, unavoidably there are those who chafe at the idea of adherence to religious ideology or the church having secular authority within Daeamorant. Such individuals rarely make this public knowledge, for it would be akin to political suicide in many cases. Malcontents, as well as the devout who disagree with a church decision, are more prone to utilizing clandestine operations to achieve their goals instead. Because of this, political intrigue is commonplace, and usage of spies, corrupt officials, and even assassins are not out of the question when it comes to schemes between Domusancs. Daeamorant being arguably most reverent of Alleniel, the Goddess of Law, means such unsavory professions are especially dangerous careers in this country, but equally, they're especially lucrative as well.
It is this dichotomy of secular interest and religious reverence that leads to Daeamorant and its Domusancs being a rather complex society. The emphasis on adherence to celestial principles creates a society heavily based around their interpretation of divine justice, which ironically creates an inflated value for those willing to ignore those principles. Daeamorant creates a unintended greater emphasis on the flexible through its intended greater emphasis on rigidity, and nowhere is this exemplified more than through the machinations of the Domusancs.
