Gerwine Federmann
Gerwine Federmann was a Trebai tavern worker and adventurer.
Early Life
"There's so much of her mother in her. Which I'm very proud of... but it worries me, too." - Gerwine's father, to a tavern patronBorn in 8069, Federmann's father was the tavern-keeper of Federmann's Tavern-on-the-Road, a countryside inn between Boulder Glade and Brooder's Crossing. Federmann's mother, Arene, was a Trebai Ascendancy Soldier who was stationed in the northern Ascendancy province of Kalitze. After giving birth to Gerwine, Arene returned to active duty, clearing up lingering dwarf rebellions in the area. From an early age, Federmann was torn between her own desire to go out adventuring and her father's desire for her to run the tavern after he was gone. She frequently worked on her skills with the sword, though without her mother around very often to teach her, she was unable to develop the mastery she wished for. In 8083, when Federmann was fourteen years old, a group of heroes assisting Mallan Wolfram, Lord of Brooder's Crossing, stopped at her father's tavern. They were on their way to Boulder Glade, hoping to rescue a Druid named Blue Eagle. Federmann begged the adventurers to take her with them, wanting to test out her skills. On account of her age and inexperience, the adventurers refused. Despite this, Federmann secretly followed the adventurers to Boulder Glade, where she witnessed their battle with a demigod of the Marunites and their rescuing of Blue Eagle. She also witnessed the aftermath of the destruction of the Gerendars, a sight that would haunt her forever. Exploring the ruins of the sanctuary at Boulder Glade, Federmann lost track of the adventurers she had followed, and remained there after they had left, looking for treasure. She found a Ren Berig Greatsword that had once belonged to the chieftain of the Gerendars, buried beneath a pile of rubble. Though she was far too small to use the sword, Federmann was impressed at her find and took it with her. Before she could leave, a group of Ren Berig raiders found Federmann's father and captured her. They sent a ransom note to her father, demanding hundreds of gold coins for her safe return. Federmann went to the new ruler of Brooder's Crossing, Aristeo of Rovna, and asked for help. Aristeo heard his request and launched a cunning attack on the raiders' encampment, safely rescuing Federmann and proving himself to the wary town at the same time.
