Blue Eagle
"I am the shining of the eagle's luminous eye; I am the space between the leaves of the great Evertree; I am a druid.Blue Eagle was a Ren Berig Gerendar druidess who lived in the Fifth Era. Destined from birth to be a druid, she was trained by the elders of her tribe in the druidic arts from an early age. Her relationship with Mallan Wolfram would harm her relationship with the tribe, but later she would return to assist her people in their wars with the Marunites.
Early Life
Blue Eagle was born in the outer reaches of Atla Vera, on the southwestern edge of the Western Commons. A member of the Gerendar tribe, her parents were ordinary farmers. She was quickly recognized as having great power by tribal elders, and at the age of six was taken in by the tribe's druids to learn the druidic arts. A powerful magic user, Blue Eagle was quickly able to master many ways, and at the age of fourteen began to take part in many tribal rituals, including the Songs for the Sun, the Songs for the Moons, and routine sacrifices to harvest gods. At the age of sixteen, Blue Eagle experienced a summoning from the Ren Berig god Tem Sulla. A god of evil, Blue Eagle was warned not to venture to the Isle of the Black Tower, where she would find him, but embarked on the journey anyway. When she arrived, Tem Sulla informed her that he wished to do battle with her in mortal form. If he won, he would consume her soul. If she won, he would give her great power. The two fought, with Tem Sulla taking several different forms during the fight. Eventually defeated, Tem Sulla, rather than making Blue Eagle powerful in magic or combat, took away her hearing and speaking ability. Blue Eagle was enraged, but there was nothing she could do. Upon her return to her tribe, the elders were upset that she had gone and further dismayed by her loss of hearing and speaking. Her fellow druids theorized that the loss of ability did give her power, in a way, by allowing her to reach farther into the innate power of the natural world. Blue Eagle then departed on a year-long meditation, during which time she increased her communication with the gods and nature, resisting further temptations from Tem Sulla. Blue Eagle set out to return to the Gerendars at the age of eighteen, during which time she met a young Mallan Wolfram, who was fighting in the final years of The Twenty-Year War. Though the two developed feelings for each other during this meeting, Blue Eagle resisted her own feelings and continued on to her tribe. Once she was home, however, the tribe's luck had taken a bad turn. A poor harvest and a minor plague had convinced the tribe's chieftain and some druids that Tem Sulla had cursed the Gerendar name, and they blamed the curse largely on Blue Eagle. Moreover, Blue Eagle was rumored to be having a relationship with a Trebai man, taboo in her conservative tribe. She was banished from the tribe.Further Adventures and Relationship with Mallan Wolfram
After her banishment, Blue Eagle wandered the forests of the Western Commons, alone and unsure about her future. During this time, she worked various adventuring jobs for different clients, though finding work was difficult due to her disability. In 8052, Blue Eagle encountered Mallan Wolfram once again, though at this point he had been exiled from Brooder's Crossing, having been framed for murder. The two continued their relationship, finding solace in that they had both been treated unfairly by their people. They eventually married, in a Ren Berig-style ceremony, and began a new life together. The pair moved around frequently, engaging in various adventures. Blue Eagle often ventured out on her own, to stay in touch with the natural world. Wolfram, however, increasingly felt that he should try to return to Brooder's Crossing. In 8077, while residing at the abandoned Monastery of Zor near the village, the two drew the attention of a group of adventurers, who helped restore Wolfram to power and expel the man who had framed him.Return to the Gerendars
Despite this success, Blue Eagle became unhappy, as she was separated from the wilderness by the thick walls of Greywatch Keep. In addition, she was looked down upon by much of the village for her ethnicity, especially the fact that she was married to a Trebai nobleman. She also missed her tribe, despite what they had done to her. When Wolfram fell down the stairs of Greywatch Keep and lost the ability to use his legs, he asked her to leave him, so that she would not have to take care of him. Blue Eagle accepted this offer. She made her way back to the Gerendars in 8080, finding that many of the people who had banished her had passed away or were no longer respected by the tribe. However, the tribe had also found itself in a nasty war with the neighboring Marunites. Unlike the ritual cattle raids commonplace among Ren Berig tribes, the Marunites actively sought to destroy the Gerendars for major offenses by a reckless former chieftain. Blue Eagle assisted the Gerendars in several battles over the fighting seasons of the next two years, and it looked like they would survive the war. However, a series of highly unusual wintertime attacks by the Marunites during the waning months of 8082 cornered the Marunites, forcing all of them back to a tribal sanctuary at Boulder Glade. Here, the Marunites launched a final, relentless assault. Despite a hard fight, and Blue Eagle using all her strength, her tribe lost. The Gerendars were massacred, and Marunite druids attempted to sacrifice Blue Eagle, recognizing her great power. Blue Eagle was saved from this fate by Mallan Wolfram, who had heard about the attack and returned with a group of adventurers just in time. Though severely pained by the loss of her tribe, Blue Eagle was able to peacefully live out her days in the woods with her old lover; the two reunited and Wolfram left Brooder's Crossing for good, allowing them to live in seclusion. Blue Eagle continued to practice the druidic arts, defending their homestead against any dangers that would befall them.Physical Description
