The Wolf Den

As you enter, a huge old knarled tree rooted into a rocky outcropping dominates the clearing. Its snake-like branches twist and curl as they rise up creating an oppressive canopy above. A dense mist fills the air and clings to the cold damp ground.   Moving forward it becomes immediately evident you have stepped into the territory of a vicious predator. As you wade through the shallow mist, a sea of bones and other detritus is revealed extending out from the trunk of the tree.   You follow the trail of bones to its origin and as you approach the tree you notice a large cave-like opening in amongst the roots and rocks. Getting closer to the entrance the air becomes warm and thick with the smells of blood and decay. Innumerable sets of tracks lead to and from the entrance, it is impossible to determine the true number of individuals but one stands out from the rest, a set of paw prints nearly double in size of the others present.
