Diamond Sunscaled

Long long ago, Diamond Sunscaled was the great defender of the Onyxscaled at the earliest time in their civilization. He was believed to be the child born as a result of the Sun and Moon taking on both of their powers, the Sun's might, and the Moon's protection. However, after a millennia of defending the Onyx he was challenged by the Greatwyrm, a formidable beast that threatened the young nation. As the story goes, he sacrificed his immortality and infuses it into a legendary sword. When the time came for the final battle both assailants where mortally wounded and each of them perished as a result. Today Diamond Sunscaled is still remembered and his final resting place has been commemorated with a statue. With the nearby town being especially thankful creating a holiday to celebrate his life even after his death a few thousand years ago. His sword has been lost to time, legend says it is still hidden somewhere, or perhaps it is unknowingly kept in a dragon's far off hoard. Modern civilization may never find the artifact but they where to, it would grant them unknowable power.

While most of the Onyx population deeply believes in the story, evidence is often limited. With the legend initially being passed down orally tracing its origin has been made difficult. To this date no archeological evidence has been found pointing to the location of either the sword or the remains of the Greatwyrm.

Archeological teams are still making expeditions to this day with some finding more and more evidence that the story was real than not, but because of complex land borders with the Nines Republic and suspicions of an artifact important to Moonkin belief. Proper investigation has been severely limited.

The myth is known by every Onyx in the nation with some variation to the Onyx on other continents. The other races generally do not view the myth highly but some have come to believe it themselves helping out in its discovery.

Few things change from the core concept, in each varitation his immortality is given up to slay a mighty beast. Sometimes he is born to a different pair of gods and other times the beast may be a sea monster or an Engines of Creation, but no matter what the connection between him and the Onyx is always there and focus of the tail is over how he sacrifices to save the greater whole.
