The supreme God and Creator, Si, divides Themself and thus creates the world.
The first civilization and empire, Elvaris, was of the united alsin elves and vasri human people. Due to an unknown cataclysm, a horrific civil war ripped the empire apart and set the stage for the Alsin Schism and the breaking of the vasri into the Five Nations. At its height, Elvaris covered nearly 90% of Syrel and 40% of the totality of Sidelliar.
There was an immense disturbance in the emptiness beyond the stars, and in reaction, Si momentarily reawoke and repaired the rift in an astronomical display of power with disastrous consequences.
High Eldynaear, the second great civilization after the fall of Elvaris, was founded 100 years after the Rending. While the great Alsin elves had declined, the descendants of the Vasri humans in three of the Vasri Five Nations united and began to reconstruct their fallen society. Thus, High Eldynaear, named after the premier Vasri city in the time of Elvaris, was born. It was after the 13th High King of Eldynaear's death that the nation began to decline, and the 16th High King's assassination and the subsequent loss of north-western Eldynaear decided the nation's ultimate fate. The nation did, however, persist until the surrender of the 26th High King at the Battle of the Seven Holds. Eldynaear's fall resulted in a mass migration of humans south and east, and for over a thousand years, the elves and dwarves of Syrel dominated the northwest.
Alsinvale and Sinokar, the great Elven and Dwarven kingdoms, took hold in Northwest Syrel after the retreat of the humans and the dissolution of High Eldynaear. Both are revered as the pinnacle of the elf and dwarf societies, with leaps and bounds made in all facets of life. Many of the grand cities and monuments of that time persist, whether still inhabited by their creators (such as Sylark and Endraskar) or their original inhabitants replaced by humans (in the case of Feslark). For two thousand years, Alsinvale and Sinokar coexisted in the northern and southern expanses of the region and reigned supreme, only for their friendship and supremacy to fracture with the Great Incursion.
"Humans from the South and East of Syrel, and even from the far West, from the deserts, plains, forests, mountains, hills, rivers, valleys, seas, and marshes, they have come, and I fear the worst for my people. But war... war must be avoided." - A Diary Excerpt from King Valare of Alsinvale.
In the midst of the Great Incursion, many burgeoning societies along the Asperalan coast were united in religion by the arrival of the missionary predecessors of the Solarch Church. Eventually, these disparate peoples banded together in a hegemony of sorts, which evolved into a centralized theocracy led by the leaders of the recently-founded Church. For a thousand years, the Holy Empire Aslynthar remained the most prominent theocracy in Syrel and rapidly spread north and south; Aslynthar's existence brought together and formed the cultures of the area that have prevailed to today. After Lacryn seceded from the empire, it dissolved into Asdera and Elgyngard over a religious schism.
The Republic, in the beginning of the fall of Aslynthar, dramatically seceded from the Holy Empire under the leadership of renegade Lord Delethon Geralsonilium.
