Age of the Ancients

10500 7000

While most of the mortal, humanoid races are still in their infacy, and remain in scattered, tribal societies, the surface of Ussath Riel is ruled by Dragons and Giants. As these ancient and powerful races expand they increasingly come into conflict with eachother, and eventually fight an all-out war.

Rise and Dissappearance of the Axe-Lords

As the numbers of the Giants and Dragons start to dwindle through their centuries long war, one of the mortal races - known only as the Axe-lords - rose up against the Ancients. The Axe-Lords united the various mortal, humanoid races in a powerful empire that fought against the Dragons and Giants, succeeding at killing many of them and causing most Giants to leave the continent alltogether. The Empire of the Axe-Lords is known to have dominated almost the entirety of Ussath Riel, which would make it the most powerful entity in its history, but at the end of the era, the entire race and its empire vanished in an unknown calamity, leaving only some of their ruins.

Golden Age

7000 3000

With the reign of of the Ancients at an end, the mortal races flourish, build magnificent empires, and expand. For many of the mortal races, they reach the peak of their power and cultural development.

    Crown Wars
    Military action

The Crown Wars encompasses a period in which five large scale conflicts (some overlapping) were fought between the various Elven nations of Ussath Riel . These conflicts caused untold destruction and the decline of Elven power within Sharrodras. The Elves look back upon these conflicts with great shame and regret, sometimes even denying they ever took place.
During these wars, the Dark Elves (who still remained at the surface at this point) of the nation of Ilythiir were tempted by Lolth to commit great acts of evil. The behaviour of Illythiir caused all Dark Elves to be cursed and banished to the Underdark, turning them into the Drow.

Age of Darkness

3000 0

A series of long and large scale conflicts causes the Elven, Dwarven, and Goblin realms to collapse and end up greatly diminished. Much of the history and knowledge of this era and the previous ones is lost as cities burn and lives are ended. What little knowledge remains of this Era, most would prefer to forget, and so very little research is done on this time and the events that took place.
During this era, the first human settlers made landfall on the Vikren Isles

Age of Humanity

1 and beyond

The arrival and expansion of Humans on the continent has greatly altered the power relations of Ussath Riel. The quick expansion of the humans into the power vacuum left behind by the other mortal races, has caused humans to become the dominant race on the continent for the time being.

    The Silent Invasion
    Disaster / Destruction

The Silent Invasion refers to the opening of a portal to the abyss within the heart of the Valmith empire, after which demons poured through the portal in the hopes of conquering the Material Plane. The invasion was contained by sealing the entire capitol city of Aynir in a powerful magical shield. The demonic invasion was brought to a stop and eventually ended from within but the event caused the fall and dissolution of the Valmith empire and left the epicentre of the invasion as a bleak and desolate scar upon the land, tained by the demonic influence. Three of the factions that were key in ending the demonic invasion each started a new nation in what remained of the Valmith empire. The nations of Ithleon, Nestur and Vindraxos each consider themselves to be the true heir of the Valmith empire and have been in a continuous state of war with one another.   Since no one was able to leave or enter the magical bubble and communication was cut off, none outside the bubble knew of what transpired within until the invasion had ended and the magical shield was dispelled. This caused the event to become known as "The Silent Invasion".

    The Valmith Schism
    Disbandment

In the aftermath of the Silent Invasion, the surviving Valmithians rallied around the three powerful organisations that had been key to ending the invasions. As it became time to rebuild, however, it became clear that each of the organisations envisioned a very different future for the Valmith empire. Tension, and outright distrust rose between the organisations until a high level meeting between the main members of the organisations erupted into a violent civil war. After most of the fighting had ended, the organisations carved up the remains of the Valmith to found the three seperate nations of Nestur, Ithleon, and Vindraxos. Each of these considers themselves the true heir of the Valmith empire and they have been in a state of war since.
