Ithleon

The nation of Ithleon is one of the three succesors of the Valmith Empire, and is named after its founder and ruler Marius Ithleon. Of the three succesors, Ithleon most closely resembles the former Valmith Empire and hopes to one day restore the empire of old. For now, however, Ithleon has to begrudgingly accept the status quo between the three succesors until it can gain the upper hand.
Like the empire of old, Ithleon is a strict and devout empire where order, the rule of law, and faith in Helm are absolute. Though other faiths and traditions are tolerated and practiced throughout the Empire - as long as they do not collide with the state religion - but many feel uncomfortable practicing them openly as they perceive the high degree of social control and the stiff and rigurous nature of the Leoni people to be stifling and opressive. Though those who live virtuous lives have little to fear, many outsiders can feel uneasy with the constant sense of being watched. Though this was true for the old empire as well, this sense has increased in the new empire. As Marius Ithleon and his followers believe the Silent Invasion to be caused by a lack of vigilance to notice the growing corruption within the old Valmith Empire, they believe that the people of the old empire were punished for this cardinal sin in the eyes of the god of watchfulness. With Marius' ascension as the avatar of Helm, he has placed a renewed emphasis on vigilance to gaurentee the new empire of Ithleon won't squander their second chance by allowing another calamity to go unnoticed. This renewed emphasis is reflected partly in subjective matters like the increased sense of shared responsibility amongst the Leoni people, and partly and in more tangible matters like the founding of the inquisiton to watch for any threats against the empire or its faith.
Though the Leoni are often perceived as rigid, dour and untrusting, they tend to be honest, hardworking and devout people. The population mainly consists of humans and although other races do live in Ithleon, they are often treated with skepticism until they have earned their trust. Drow and Tieflings however are generally met with disdain and suspicion due to them being associated with the enemy Nestur.
