The Gods, either out of boredom or purpose, begin creating the first beings, In the Beginning there where only Humans.
Some of the First Humans, Lead by the God(s) of the harvest, where taught how to farm in the Breadbasket Cradel zone (Modern Day Rentar). Modern Historians often debate if humans would have figured out farming on their own.
Lead by ocean God(s) a large number of people settle along the coastline near the tropic point of modern day Saltstrand.
Fueled by the powerful tool of farming, the ancient nation of Nagara is created. This nation seemed to not have a set kingdom but rather a city formed as a place of trade, where some people decided to settle.
The First King of Nagara Appears. King Ea-Nasir rose to power through unknown means, it appears that he claimed divine right to lead this burgeoning new nation. And the Gods, perhaps through a bemused curiosity, did not confirm or deny this statement. Today we know that even demi gods have appearances and abilities that are far easier to spot and that Ea-Nasir was likely lying. Nevertheless, his rule was welcomed as he brought about better laws for trading, new systems of government, and the first true standing army to protect against the mounting threats of the world.
As the Naragain first City grew the outside human populations were also creating their own power. The Mountainous area to the east, Known as the Etan Steppes, found the creation of the early Sterr tribes, nomadic hunters who were lead by horse spirits. Meanwhile, to the south and upstream on the fertile Ferrin River a group of rival traders had begun to create their own community that was fast growing.
The New King of Nagara, King Ea-Nasir-Chu, chose to strike first at the Southern settlers outside of his kingdom, The settlers now hosted a robust town for the age of about 2000, the fleeing villagers moved to the mountains, where the Horseless Nagaran armies could not easily follow.
With the help of the Ocean God(s) the ancient costal people begin creating the first boats. They would soon start venturing further and further outwards towards the Mokupuni island region. Due to an almost prefect climate their population explodes over thee next few decades.
The Sterr tribes, who grew in power from the collection of fleeing southern nagarans stage a major siege on the city of Nagara. Thousands die as this first civilization falls into ruin. A recent drought caused the Nagarans to loose significant power coming into the siege. Additionally, it appears that at least the majority of the Gods of war sided with the Sterr tribes.
The Nagarans, fleleing their fallen city, disperse into the largely unknown world. Eventually finding regional or minor gods to follow. The great discovery period begins.
The ancient Sotarian nation is founded south of the former nagaran city across the Oppius Straight (Modern Day Fane). Due to an easier time farming the Sotarians attract the interest of the Younger Science Gods. Settling alongside, Sotaria will become a nation of innovation, creation, and due to their exports, humanity will be push forwards by likely thousands of years.
The first recorded use of a Zero is found around now, furthering math and scientific inquiry.
The Sotarians start creating the aqueduct system that still stands over the region today.
The Sotarians invent the chariot for use in travel. Its readily imported by other nations like the Hhun-Yu
The Guwan nation was a small group of seasonal nomads that established a twin capitol sytem for a winter and summer movement. Despite their unique answer to the challenges of the region they where in, the Sterr People quickly overtook and assimilated this nation.
The Sotatrans, pushed by a social movement fueled by xenophobic fears, withdraw themselves, their technology no longer shared with the outside world. By 1100 the nation was fully separated from the outside world.
The Sterr Peeople, fueled partially by the chariot invention of the Sotarians, take over massive sections of the cradle zone, their nation began covering the Gran-Di plains before ending just at the edge of the now abandoned coast line. The capitol city was placed on these plains and was called Sterrhagen. It became essentially the center of the known world as the Sotarians withdrew from it.
Asgald is a very important Sterr Leader. Born humbly in the winter of 1512, this tribesman slowly took over and fully united the Sterr People into a more homogenous group.
Far East from the fertile valley groups of former Nagaran refugees as well as native people have grown quickly, now filling the eastern Peninsula. Their explosion is size ends up forming the Gandu nation, which, due to the Foothold Mountain Range as well as the 4 tail lake, is largely safe from any imperial expansion to their west.
The island people of the Mokupuni region find the furthest edge of the region. On the last island is the Pāhoehoe volcano, which quickly gained religious significance is mostly because of the protection the Island God(s) placed over it. The largest Mokupuni city formed at the base of this semi-active volcano.
The Mokupuni People, who where traditionally tribal oriented fishers, developed an early oligarchy system where each island tribe was given a vote. This soon developed into the individual people of the islands gaining votes on rules, fishing locations, trade specializations and which people where given the right to live on the Pāhoehoe island.
Despite the ban on the study of magic, a young scientist named Malum Ideae secretly studied the mystical arts. It wasn't long until he discovered the ability to channel the chaotic magical energy of the world and utilize it. His first spell was a simple light. However, his continued study revealed the sheer amount of magical energy that existed in the old world. His second spell leveled 13 buildings and killed about 100 people, including himself. Magic was further outlawed in Sotaria, however, there was no undoing what Malum had shown the world.
Despite the heightened restrictions on magic in Sotaria, a group of scholars and social outcasts form a cult around the study of magic on the anniversary of Malum Ideae's death. This group operated secretly, trying to learn magic and build on some of the early theories described by Malum in his journal.
The Sterr, after a period of state decline, push into the mountains bordering the Gandu nation. This act of war lead to a Gandu counter attack that pushed far into the Sterr nation. A series of battles resalted in a significant loss of life on both sides, and the Gandu gaining a large portion of the Sterr land.
After a Prosperous age the Sterr nation begins to break up, recent leaders from the Asgald line proved to be weak and after about a generation of poor leadership the individual groups of the Sterr begin to break away, by about 1700 nothing was truly left of the once great nation. Quickly the power of the Sterr nation became in question as the once massive nation began loosing battles with much smaller forces. This was further punctuated by the death of the last Sterr King, who had no heir. This King's name was forgotten by history. Later tribes attempted to hold the same power, however, no great unification ever truly came. The nomadic people of the Gran-Di plains and mountains shank to smaller nomadic tribes once again.
The scientist Quintus Bato writes his first work on gravity, he finds that all things fall to the ground at a constant rate, however, he found that fabric made from findili leaves (a fibrous plant with minor magical affects that was unknown at the time) would sometimes appear to defy gravity for short periods of time. Little did he know that this feature was the first known experimentation with aether currents, the foundation for the modern travel of today.
In the Year 1554 the Sotarian Emperor Adamar Kealen's wife, Sumina Kealen, became very ill while bearing his son. Despite the modern technology of the city, Sumina's condition did not change. In desperation the King choose to utilize the secret magics of the cult of Malum. This saved the wife but did cause unintended affects on the unborn child.
In the evening of the 3rd of Tempestuous, Orrian Kaelen was born. His parents quickly realized something was wrong as the child bore two pointed ears and uncharacteristic blond hair. He was diagnosed with magic-related mutations, a growing phenomenon in Sotaria. The child was quickly hidden from the public, and often bore a hood when he did made his rare public appearances.
After the untimely death of Orrian Kaelen's father, the young king ascends to the throne. For the first time in Sotarian history the coronation ceremony was not open to the public. Many feared that the new emperor was ill and worried that he would not last long with the new duties that came with the crown.
In a landmark change the newly crowned Emperor choose to decriminalize the use of low level magic much to the dismay of the Old Gods that existed in his court. This marked a major shift in Sotarian sciences as the once criminal art became slowly adopted into the everyday life of the the people.
The God(s) who originally supported the Throne publicly and suddenly leave the nation of Sotaria. Before leaving they claimed their movement was due to the Emperor choosing to "Abandon the Righteous Way". They cited Orrian Kaelen's first magical edict and his choice to not follow their advice as evidence to their claims.
The Eruption of PĀHOEHOE was recorded in records found as far as Saxum where the ash cloud could easily be made out. Many records included notes that the sound of the Eruption could be heard over one hundred miles from the mountain. On the islands the cataclysm could not be understated. All living beneath the mountain, a privileged class of leaders, perished within the ash and lava of the eruption. Nearby islands where covered in a thick layer of soot that killed many of inhalation. The surviving records of the Mokupuni peoples refers to the event as the "First End of the World". Current records indicate that this eruption was not completely natural. There was a "ceremony" performed by the old gods only the night before the eruption that was not witnessed by any human. This theory of tampering is further supported by the magical mutations seen in the Mokupuni people following the eruption. This is theorized to be from the ash found inside the mountain. Magically Embued ash has been uncovered in archaeological sites in every continent.
A collection of political dissidents loyal to the Gods who had left Sotaria rise up against Orrian Kaelen. This group came to be known as the Faithfull, and soon after their secessionist movement the Faithfull took over the southern portion of Sotaria, south of the Crag Mountain Range and east of the Mons Range. The following war was excessively bloody.
Following the eruption of Pahoehoe, a group of red-scalled humanoids began to appear. While some came from random mutations at birth, the vast majority of these new humanoids were the changed forms of the originally thought dead inhabitants of Pahoehoe island. This new group quickly formed its own religion based on the blessings of the volcano, while the human refugees of the islands created a separate religion treating the volcano as a doorway directly to a place of eternal torment. Outside of the islands the rest of the world was quick to believe that these Tieflings where cursed and unclean, many of these beliefs where largely supported and spread by the old gods. It became common practice for parents who have recently given birth to a Tiefling to either kill or abandon their children. Children who survived would make pilgrimages to Pahoehoe to avoid prosecution. This fear however, had the effect of exposing far more people to the supernatural and crating a more magically minded society as a whole.
Now several years into the civil war, and fastly loosing, Orrian Kaelen chose to utilize war mages. These new mages were trained in illegal magics capable of harming others. This decision turned the tides of the war in Kaelen's favor, at the cost of countless lives. The first use of these mages was at the massacre of the red field, where mages placed on a nearby hill cast fire spells over a field of enemy combatants. The enemy army had been lured to the position byt a false retreat by Kaelen's army. Thousands of enemy soldiers died in an instant, creating the first overwhelming victory for the Sotarian Army since the beginning of the war.
The Sotarian Civil war, which had become even more bloody had finally forced the hands of the Old Gods. Their initial involvement in the war revealed three major facts of this group: 1. The Old Gods' understanding of magic was far greater than any other mortal creature 2. The Old Gods were lead by a Queen, who is the only recorded individual Old God. This Queen, known as Urasil, was stronger than any other old god. 3. The Old Gods were not invincible.
The Old Gods, now desperate for an end to the war, utilize an ancient spell absolutely destroying the magical weave and leaving only remnants of magic. The war is reduced again to simple bladed battles, but the magical surge of energy caused even more magical mutations throughout the world, as well as served as a beacon for other worldly entities.
Orrian Kaelen chooses to reveal himself to his kingdom at a large gathering following the destruction of the weave. His people, many now mutated, and more afraid as their dependence on magic had left their lives completely destroyed following the disaster. Kaelen, although the reception was initially wary, found that his people had become far more willing to follow a mutated human now that they have warred with the Old Gods.
The Gandu nation experiences a sudden and violent uprising due to the magical weave being destroyed. The revolt, led by the powerful Gardune family, quickly took over the imperial palace, setting up the now most ancient Empire in the world. Gardune would experience a series of counter-revolts and battles before stabilizing.
Drawn by the incredible magical energies of the destruction of the weave, far more powerful and mysterious celestial forces begin involving themselves with the people of Saxum. Originally these celestial beings involved themselves in very minor ways, mostly through visions with seemingly random selection throughout the world. Over time small and often illegal cults formed around these visions.
A period of about two hundred years based around massive conflicts, death, destruction, and plague. Spurred by the collapse of the weave groups formed into bands and cults dedicated to principles of survival and combat.
Many of the divine beings who arrived beginning in 1600 were positive or benign beings, but not all. One of the most dangerous of all is the God of Names. A strong undercurrent of sycophantic followers of this diety began appearing worldwide, the cultists called themselves "Children of the Dark Star"
With the destruction of magic and its protective qualities, came plagues and new strife for the people of Saxum. The most dangerous of these were the plagues that began decimating these people. Despite no one truly knowing today what these plagues were, excerpts from a Gardinian Medical Book describe its symptoms: "Great bodily harm to the arms and legs through open sores, along the neck deep red swelling. Dripping from the Nose and Swollen Eyes. Late stages include coughing of red blood. Recommended Treatment: Large dose of Himbuni root to ease pain, quarantine from others, diet of water and rice until Patient passes. - No Cure." Hundreds of thousands succumbed to this disease within years.
