Orrian Kaelen

In the Year 1554 the Sotarian Emperor Adamar Kealen's wife, Sumina Kealen, became very ill while bearing his son. Despite the modern technology of the city, Sumina's condition did not change. In desperation the King choose to utilize the secret magics of the cult of Malum. This saved the wife but did cause unintended affects on the unborn child.

After the untimely death of Orrian Kaelen's father, the young king ascends to the throne. For the first time in Sotarian history the coronation ceremony was not open to the public. Many feared that the new emperor was ill and worried that he would not last long with the new duties that came with the crown.

The God(s) who originally supported the Throne publicly and suddenly leave the nation of Sotaria. Before leaving they claimed their movement was due to the Emperor choosing to "Abandon the Righteous Way". They cited Orrian Kaelen's first magical edict and his choice to not follow their advice as evidence to their claims.

Now several years into the civil war, and fastly loosing, Orrian Kaelen chose to utilize war mages. These new mages were trained in illegal magics capable of harming others. This decision turned the tides of the war in Kaelen's favor, at the cost of countless lives.   The first use of these mages was at the massacre of the red field, where mages placed on a nearby hill cast fire spells over a field of enemy combatants. The enemy army had been lured to the position byt a false retreat by Kaelen's army. Thousands of enemy soldiers died in an instant, creating the first overwhelming victory for the Sotarian Army since the beginning of the war.
