Ritual of Verdant Grace
In Armonia, the city celebrates the Ritual of Verdant Grace every Spring Equinox. The celebration is a fusion of the recognition of Saela Veylen's sacrifice while casting the Pulse of Verdancy as well as a celebration of the nation's founding and recognition of newly trained Medicos. The Ritual of Verdant Grace follows a scripted series of moments throughout the day and is one of the most highly regarded days on the Armonian calendar. the Ritual is the culmination of a week long celebration throughout the city and blends formal rites with symbolic meaning. The signpost moments are as follows:
Dawn: The Blooming Path
Citizens decorate the plaza with branches, flowers, and living plants cultivated throughout the winter—each person contributing to the Renewal Tapestry laid around Saela’s statue. The path leading from the Hall of Quiet Mercy to the Plaza is lined with woven garlands thoughout the week in preparation for the Ritual, signifying the road of growth every Medico must walk.
Sunrise: The Quiet Pulse
A citywide moment of silence is held in remembrance of the Pulse of Verdancy. As the first rays of sun touch the statue to Saela Veylen , a soft green glow settles upon the plaza emanating outward from magically infused gems embedded in the statue.
Midmorning: The Procession of the Rod
The Rod of Uriah - the ultimate symbol of Armonian independence and dedication to healing, is carried along the garland path to the Plaza by Armonia's senior Medico. Guarded by a quartet of white-cloaked Archons. The anthem of Armonia is played as the Rod is placed on a raised plinth before the statue.
Noon: The Oath of the First Bloom
Newly recognized Medicos, having completed their formal training, kneel before the Rod and recite the Oath of First Bloom:
“By blood and by mercy, I rise.
By Saela’s light and Uriah’s shadow, I serve.
Let no wound fester, no truth falter,
While my hands yet breathe.”
Each initiate receives a silver clasp in the shape of a blooming branch—their first official insignia of duty
Afternoon: The Legacy Verse
A speech is given by one of the Elder Medicos (or occasionally a foreign dignitary). Themes most often emphasize a reflection on Saela Vaylen’s sacrifice and how each generation must carry that legacy not in sorrow, but in action.
Dusk: The Verdant Offering
Children from Armonia's schools lay prepared vine-wrapped scrolls at the base of Veylen's statue. They contain inside the personal hopes, blessings, and thanks of their families written in the month leading up the Ritual of Verdant Grace.
The day is completed as twilight falls and biolumiescent pollen is released from the highest towers of Armonia, symbolizing the Renewal of Spring and the end of the day's celebration.
