Armonia
Nestled to the west of the Emarian Moors, the small yet powerful city-state of Armonia stands as a beacon of hope and protection in a land filled with turmoil and dark magic. Positioned between the Emarian Moors and the Lazari Plains, Armonia's strategic location has allowed it to serve as a sanctuary for those fleeing the devastation of war, disease, and oppression. The land is governed by an Aristocracy of Medicos, individuals born with the healing spark, whose primary goal is to protect and nurture the people within their walls, as well as provide sanctuary to those in need from surrounding nations.
The heart of Armonia stands as a fortified stronghold. The city's defensive capabilities are second to none, with towering 50-foot walls reinforced by powerful magical barriers, ensuring that it is nearly impenetrable by both conventional weapons and magical assault. Armonia is a renowned sanctuary. Pilgrims from across Sangrithar travel to Armonia seeking refuge from the horrors of war, disease, and oppression. The Armonian Medicos, using their healing powers, are known for their compassion and willingness to assist anyone who enters the city gates—no questions asked.
The walls of Armonia not only protect from external threats but also serve as a symbol of the Medicos' deep-rooted belief in preservation of life, as they are constantly reinforced by healing magics that mend any cracks or structural weaknesses.
Trade Alliances
Armonia's reputation as a center of healing knowledge has earned it an important place in international trade networks. The Medicos' knowledge of restorative magic, particularly in the form of potions, salves, and regenerative spells, is in high demand across Sangrithar. Armonia’s ability to create magical remedies has made it a lucrative destination for diplomats, merchants, and leaders from other nations
Trade relations are a vital aspect of Armonian life, and the country has a complex web of alliances and contracts with various factions. Nations often send pilgrims or delegations in search of cures for ailments, while Armonia’s traders exchange medical knowledge for resources or military protection. This system has allowed Armonia to maintain a relatively peaceful existence, as it is valued by its neighbors for its healing capabilities, and other factions are hesitant to provoke a war with a nation that holds such vital knowledge.
However, tensions are beginning to rise as other nations, particularly those with rising Techno populations or militaristic ambitions, begin to question the continued dominance of the Medicos. As the Technos push to create artifacts that would replace the need for Medico healing, the ability of Armonia to maintain its moral high ground is being tested.
Culture
The governance of Armonia is a medically focused oligarchy, where power resides with a ruling council of Aristocratic Medicos. Unlike the hereditary bloodline rule in many other nations, Armonia’s council is elected from among the most accomplished and wise of the Medico families. Armonian Medicos view themselves as guardians of life, and their leadership philosophy centers around the idea of compassionate stewardship over their people.
The people of Armonia view healing and preservation as the highest calling, and as such, the country's culture revolves around care for others. Children in Armonia are raised with a strong sense of empathy, and many are trained in the healing arts from a young age. The goal is not only to master physical healing but also to cultivate the emotional intelligence required to be a compassionate healer, including wounds of the spirit and the mind. Those with exceptional healing abilities are typically inducted into the Medico guilds, where they spend their lives helping others, often becoming part of the ruling class as they ascend in skill.
This focus on healing extends to every level of society, and the working class in Armonia enjoys the benefits of the Medicos' care, including access to healing potions, regenerative treatments, and protective enchantments. Unlike other countries, the common people in Armonia are not expected to toil in the same backbreaking labor as do the Unsparked in other nations. Instead, they are employed in supportive roles, such as tending to the physical needs of the Medicos, maintaining the infrastructure of Armonia, or engaging in trade with the outside world.
The emphasis on healing creates a near-idyllic setting. Armonians that find themselves called to other disciplines outside of the healing arts are encouraged to emigrate and Armonia has several study-abroad-to-apprenticeship agreements with diplomatic allies, often training foreigners who see to study under the master healers guidance.
