Timekeeping
Other calendars are actively tracked (notably, the Vecu calendar, the Ruartei Calendar and the Juridical Calendar), but the main calendar is the local calendar.
- The main calendar uses local days and is roughly based on the cycles of the moon, but stays in sync with the stellar year by adding an extra leap day as needed.
- The day is 25.1 Earth hours, but Opis keeps to a standard 25-hr clock, adding the last .1 hours to the end of the day. As is traditional throughout much of the Grand Society, the day is divided into 5 shifts with 5 hours each (5.1 for the last hour of the day) and the first shift starts in the morning.
- The year is 448 local days long and divided into 14 months. The leap day, if any, is added to the last month of the year. As is traditional throughout much of the Grand Society, the year begins on the first day of the spring season.
- Each month has 4 weeks with 8 days. The leap day, if any, is simply considered an extra day and not in any week so the days of the week are constant from year to year.
- Due to how often leap years occur, the locals refer to regular years as "short" years.
- There are 5 seasons, each lasting 90 days — seasons are Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Thaw.
- As per Caelorian tradition, the local calendar marks its years from the first Spring season following The Great Star Storm.

Notes
Origin of Name (Earth)
Roman. Ops (or Opis) was a fertility deity and earth goddess of Sabine origin. The Latin word ops means "riches, goods, abundance, gifts, munificence, plenty". The word is also related to opus, which means "work", particularly in the sense of "working the earth, ploughing, sowing". This activity was deemed sacred, and was often attended by religious rites intended to obtain the good will of chthonic deities such as Ops and Consus. Ops is also related to the Sanskrit word ápnas ("goods, property").Key Facts
