Taa

Pronunciation: TAW

Map Index: E3, E4

Location: North central Beorlan

Geography: The expansive plateau of Taa unfolds like a dreamscape, where gentle hills clad in tall grasses stretch as far as the eye can see. In this realm, craggy hills and modest low buttes of bare bedrock punctuate the emerald plains, lending an air of ruggedness to the otherwise peaceful plains. The landscape alternates between gently sloping expanses and undulating hills, while clusters of trees and woodlands nestle in the lower alcoves.

This idyllic tableau is separated from the higher northern land of Talathtarr by the formidable Gre’larr Escarpment, rising dramatically from 400 to 950 feet above the plateau of Taa. To the south, another escarpment connects Taa to the lands below. Known as the Gre’aa Escarpment, it’s shear rocky cliffs make passage to the lower lands of Palanlad and Vhoon most difficult as they range from 400 to 750 feet in height.

Access to both the upper and lower lands is solely possible only in the southeastern areas of both escarpments. Trails in both of these areas provide the only means of passing upward or downward without the arduous ascent or descent required elsewhere. Passage elsewhere requires technical climbing skills and ropes for traversal. Today, the fault that carved these formations has attained stability, and earthquakes are but whispers of the past.

Primary Population: Herukh
Secondary Population: Sareisi
Minor Population: Valtauri

Climate: Taa's temperate climate blesses its inhabitants with mild winters graced by fleeting snowfall, while variable rainfall brings more moisture in winter months. In summer, heat and a gentle dryness, prevails.

Wildlife: The plateau's natural landscapes paint a canvas of grasslands interspersed with scattered trees.

Humanoids: Amidst this awe-inspiring backdrop resides the Herukh people, masters of elemental magic and fervent guardians of nature. Forsaking the corrupt and immoral Movorian Empire, they left their native country seeking an unoccupied land of tranquility and peace. They journeyed long before they found solace in Taa's embrace. These dwellers of the rock, skilled in harnessing the elements, sculpted their underground and cliffside abodes through sheer elemental mastery. Journeying through the land, large Herukh population centers are difficult to spot from a distance as they blend into the natural landscape.

Led by the Grand Council of the Elements, the Herukh ever seek to achieve balance with nature. While they may appear as a simple and unassuming people to the untrained eye, their profound knowledge manifests itself in their creation of extraordinary subterranean cities with verdant gardens.

Monsters: Few monsters exist in Taa due to the vigilence of the Herukh people.

History: Both escarpments were born in the catastrophe of the Great Cataclysm. At one time Taa was a part of northern Palanlad. As incessant powerful earthquakes wracked the land, the land around Taa cracked and began to rise in elevation. A succession of catastrophic earthquakes propelled the plateau to ever loftier heights until it reached where it is today. While devastated by earthquakes, Taa escaped the magical chaos storms that plagued most southern lands.

Today: Taa stands as a realm where magic and simplicity coalesce. It also provides a sanctuary for the Herukh people.
