Talathtarr

Pronunciation: TAL-lath-TAR

Map Index: D-3, D-4, E-4

Geography: Southern Aorlan

Description: The land of Talathtarr, a picturesque expanse of grassy plains and hills, boasts a captivating history woven with seismic upheaval. Its windy high plains extend as rolling hills blanketed by tall grasses, only interrupted by craggy hills of bare bedrock that stand defiantly amidst the sea of grass. Pockets of trees and woodlands grace the lower reaches, adding pockets of shade and color to the landscape.

The escarpment of Gre'aa, a geological marvel, falls abruptly from 400 to 950 feet down to the land of Taa below.

Only at the southeastern fringes did nature offer an easier path to the lower lying Taa plateau, a land of rolling grasslands and scattered trees. The way downward is provided by several different well-established trails, each with their own set of dangers. The cliffside trails are a maze of switchbacks and sharp turns that can take their toll on the unwary traveler.

Today, tranquility graces Talathtarr, its fault stabilized, and seismic rumbles a distant memory.

Primary Population: Sareisi
Secondary Population: Herukh
Minor Population: None

Climate: A temperate climate presides, gifting mild winters and infrequent snowfall that quickly vanishes under the sun's warmth. Rainfall graces the land more in the winter months, while summers swelter with heat and a seasonal aridity. The plains are windy year-round and occasionally subject to great windstorms. Water is provided by a network of perennial streams which flow cold from their mountain origins in the Kheleckoros Range.

Wildlife: The high plains of Talathtarr are alive with large herds of pronghorn antelope, mule deer, and elk, while prairie dogs fill the high plains with their burrows. Predators of this land include the stealthy cougars and coyote.

Humanoids: Amongst this awe-inspiring backdrop, the nomadic Sareisi tribes find their home. Mastery of horse and plains are their hallmarks, and they traverse the high plains with the grace of seasoned riders. Their migratory dance, a rhythm synchronized with the elk herds, guides them north to the Kheleckoros mountains in summer and south near the Taa escarpment for winter's embrace. Yet, when winter's frost bites especially hard, these horsemen will journey down into eastern Talathtarr, to an area of sheltered hills and little snow.

Monsters: Wild carnivorous beasts still lurk in isolated rocky areas. Most of the monsterous beasts that once dwelt in the plains area have been eliminated by the ever vigilant Sareisi tribes.

History: The Great Cataclysm brought sudden violent change to this land. The catastrophic earth shattering uplift of Talathtarr caused it to separate from the lower lands of Taa. Fortunately, the events that initiated this great uplift have subsided and the land is once more stable.

Today: Talathtarr's tale echoes a cataclysmic past that forever changed its landscape. However, the enduring power of nature reclaimed the land and set it on a new path.
