Pelarr

Pronunciation: pee-LARR

Map Index: D-5

Location: Central east coast of Aorlan

Description: Pelarr is a small but resourceful coastal kingdom renowned for its shipbuilding prowess. As Pelarr continued to prosper and solidify its position as a vital maritime hub, the kingdom's influence extended beyond its borders. Their skilled sailors and expertly crafted ships facilitated extensive trade routes, connecting distant lands, and fostering lucrative commerce. The Pelarran merchants became well-known for their honesty, fairness, and adherence to honorable trade practices, earning them the respect and trust of other kingdoms and regions. Despite this, the King acknowledges that dangers lurk at the western border, where the ominous forest of Tauramarth, The Forest of Doom poses a constant threat.

Near the coast, the terrain is gently rolling with much of the land cultivated. Here the land is fertile and well suited to the great fields of wheat, barley, and oats which fill the landscape. Farther west the hills get a bit steeper, and forestry is the main industry as timber is ever needed for the growing ship building industry.

Residents: The dominant inhabitants of Pelarr are humans of Arn ethnicity who managed to escape from Pelendor while the land was sinking into the sea.

Primary Population: Arn, Ceodari
Secondary Population: Shenn
Minor Population: Kharg, Kishari, Valtauri, Varynn

Government and Politics: This small kingdom, ruled by a king renown for his charisma and diplomacy skills, has fostered alliances with neighboring realms such as Denos and Arnheim to the north and Venn to the south. With the backing of solid allies, Pelarr stands resolute in the face of challenges coming from the dark forest of Tauramarth, The Forest of Doom.

Economy: The highly skilled craftsmen of Pelarr construct a diverse array of vessels, ranging from commercial river barges to sleek fast moving river craft, to large ocean-going merchant ships capable of navigating the roughest of seas. They also produce fast sailing military patrol vessels that are needed to keep coastal piracy under control. While their shipbuilding industry contributes significantly to the kingdom's prosperity, the export of wheat, barley, and oats also gives the economy a boost.

Military: To protect their realm, Pelarr boasts disciplined foot soldiers bolstered by companies of well-trained longbowmen. Many of these military units are stationed near the ever dangerous border with Tauramarth, The Forest of Doom. Pelarr also maintains a small but agile force of cavalry for scouting missions designed to give warning of approaching trouble. Pelarr's coastal location makes it vulnerable to occasional raids from pirates and brigands seeking to exploit its wealth and strategic position. To counter this, the kingdom maintains a small but effective navy the patrols the coast.

History: Founded by human refugees who fled from the sinking of their homeland across the sea during the Great Cataclysm, Pelarr grew from a collection of refugees trying to survive into a prosperous and trusted kingdom.

Today: As Pelarr continues to flourish, it also has become renowned for its rich cultural heritage and arts. The kingdom's bards, poets, and artists celebrate the tales of their ancestors and the triumphs of their people, further strengthening the kingdom's sense of identity and pride.
