Noroc Bay
Pronunciation: NOR-rock
Map Index: C-6
Location: Off the coast of east central Aorlan at the mouth of the Arn River
Description: Noroc Bay, situated off the northeast coast of Aorlan, is a vast expanse of water protected from the harsh northeast winds by the rocky Gornn Peninsula extending southwest from Torheim. Shielded from the brunt of winter storms originating in the Sea of Sorrow, the bay can be turbulent during inclement weather, yet its waters remain navigable for skilled sailors.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None
Water Characteristics: The saline waters of the bay are cold most of the year but warm somewhat during the summer months.
Geography and Geology: Spanning the area north to east of the bay lies the Kingdom of Torheim, known for the majestic deep fjords along its coastline. Icy cold water flowing out from the Carakoros Range feeds these fjords and eventually flows into the bay. Northwest of Noroc Bay, the landscape transforms into rugged foothills leading to the Carakoros Range and falls under the dominion of the formidable Kharz dwarves of Rhorr. To the west and southwest, the estuary of the mighty Arn River flows into Noroc Bay from the west, marking the territory of the Kingdom of Arnheim, the largest and most dominant human realm in Aorlan. To the south lies the gentle slopes of the Uldeen Hills.
Climate and Weather Patterns: Severe weather frequently blows in from the northeast. Gales can last for days while ships seek protected anchorage. Morning fog is common, especially in the spring.
Marine Life: The bay provides a rich estuary for fish to spawn it. Great schools of fish fill the bay. Whales often visit the bay on their migrations up and down the coast.
Cultural & Historical Significance: The bay provides a highly productive fishing ground untilized by the fishermen of Arnheim and Torheim.
Norock Bay transformed from a small bay at the mouth of the Arn River to a much larger bay during the Great Cataclysm when significant parts of the coastline sand beneath sea level.
