Quondamarite is an element formed when potentons (virtual particles of potentiality) de-excite and their wave functions condense into a physical state. Potentons are usually free-floating throughout the Quondamarie, however, under extreme pressure (such as during the Cataclysmic Resortation), they will form bonds and manifest as a white crystalline material. It is, essentially, a solidified wave function—not collapsed, as a set reality, but “frozen” in a state of static possibilities.   There are a few known natural structures composed of quondamarite. It can be sculpted under certain conditions, but in general, it is not suitable for large-scale building: without constant maintenance, the elemental bonds break instantaneously when subjected to pressure equal to or greater than that which brought them together. Once broken from the main deposit, the shards quickly crumble back into their original plasmic slurry-state and eventually return to the Quondamaric waves.  

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

  Quondamarite does not decay over time (it may not even be subject to any linear time constraints). It can only exist in two states: the condensed physical rock, or free-floating potentons. As the Gri'x was (is) formed during multiple episodes of extreme perceptual pressurization, one hypothesis predicts that if there should ever be a significant shift in external pressure, every deposit of quondamarite may revert back to its original state and return to its source—all at once.   There is a great deal of debate in the planar geology community over whether this transition might be induced (for example, in the case that the Consensi gains a major perceptual advantage in the Common Grounds) or if it must happen naturally, and, in either case, whether or not such an apocalyptic event can be prevented.

IDEALS and APPLICATIONS

  Both the Fragmentists and the Synthates are extremely interested in Quondamarite—the Fragmentists want to see all of it destroyed and returned to its natural, unmanifested state, while the Synthates would like to bring it all together in one place and try to re-create the original homogenous Omnulic structure.   The Knights of Agamus have members stationed at every known Quondamarite deposit to keep these and other extremists from interfering with it, though experienced members of the Order of the Form are qualified to use it in their work.   Somnicists, also, naturally draw quondamarite to themselves when they learn to generate enough perceptual power to form their personal Somnicist Blade and Key. This event is almost always spontaneous, rather than a planned ritual. In any case, the Somnicist has little control over the forms taken by these fundamental tools-of-the-trade, for the quondamarite molds itself according to the energy signature of the mage’s own greatest strengths and interests.  

OTHER USES

  Quondamarite is also a powerful material component in spellcasting, if properly prepared and charged ahead of time. A concentrated focus of will (through meditation and visualization) can cause the particles to resonate with any applied frequency, attuning the static potentons to a specified probability. If it is later pulverized, returning it to a slurry-state, and the particles are spread throughout the surrounding environment, the local reality will readily adjust to the programmed conditions. Depending on the nature of the visualization used in the preparation, this can be unpredictable—but hey, if a Somnicist is in such dire straits that they have to break out their precious quondamarite, whatever happens next is bound to be an improvement.   Lately, dark rumors are circulating about anti-quondamarite: a manifestation of the Void beyond the Perpetuarium which carries non-potential, i.e., it manifests as nothing-at-all. Should such a substance exist, it would be a terrible weapon, capable of negating entire swaths of existence.   Skeptics doubt that this is anything more than a tall tale—after all, if the Void had a particle, it wouldn’t be the Void. But philosophers and Somnicists know that reality doesn’t kowtow to skeptics, so the matter is being looked into.
