Zarurana

Government

The Huntmaster of Zarurana is not only a seasoned hunter, but also an ecologist and politician. They are in charge of managing the day-to-day affairs of the city and regulating the hunting industry. The Huntmaster delegates to a board of advisors they elect when they take the position. Any person who has felled at least one great beast may challenge the Huntmaster for their position in a combat ritual known simply as The Challenge.

Defences

Most every person in Zarurana is trained in some martial skill. The hunter clans keep chaos at bay via mutually assured destruction.

Industry & Trade

Zarurana is the most land-reliant of the Riverlands cities. While most Riverlanders feed themselves from the bounty of the Great River, folks were concerned with over-fishing. Zarurana was established to supplement river meat with land meat. It is also the only city to export a significant percentage of its natural industry beyond the Riverlands.

Infrastructure

Zarurana's town center is gravel pit full of drying racks for game of all sizes. On one side of the pit is the Smokehouse, and on the other is the Ice Locker, full of ice from La Rinza.

Guilds and Factions

The Huntmaster runs the official business of the city, but they come from the hunter clans. The clans are descended from the first hunters to venture away from the River and hold their duty as sacred.

History

The bebedos in Tabachacra saw visions of famine and pollution, of choking rivers and dying people. They realized the Riverlanders were in danger of over-fishing the Great River and urged them to seek other sources of food. The fledgling Guadavera didn't have the resources yo provide significantly more produce, and Abapampa didn't have the vessels to fish the sea or the coin to buy meat from elsewhere. The bebedos sent some of their own on an expedition further south than than Carjalla to find another source of food. When they reached the grassy banks to the south, they went ashore and hunted land game for the first time.   Since then the Riverlanders have learned to fish, hunt, and farm in harmony with the land, and aquatic foods are still preferred, but Zarurana provides a necessary trade to keep the Riverlands balanced.

Tourism

Many people outside of the Riverlands come to Zarurana in the hopes of trophy hunting. They are disappointed every time. As a consolation prize, Zarurana offers one of the best culinary experiences on Qen'zoccol. In addition to soothing the wounded pride kf would-be warriors, it draws foodies from around the globe.

Architecture

Zarurana tends toward round homes with hides covering wooden frames. Masonry is reserved for public buildings and meat processing centers.   Like San Ratina, Zarurana straddles the River, though it is significantly narrower here.

Geography

The cooler weather patterns and increased precipitation in the area sees the end of the southern desert. Small stands of wooded groves are home to beasts large and small while grazing animals eat their fill on the sturdy grasses near the River's edge.

Natural Resources

The abundance of wildlife provides ample opportunity for hunting and gathering.
