Coratillo

Government

The Guild of Guilds, a council of all the guild leaders in Coratillo, runs the day-to-day business of the city. Each guild is generally left to its own devices and considered the authority on its particular area of interest, but the Guild convenes on cross-guild or city-wide matters.

Defences

Bronto-riding rangers keep folks from falling off the edge of the canyon or being eaten by an escaped raptor, but generally leave people alone.

Industry & Trade

Like Camarelica, its sister city, Coratillo provides stone for building to much of the Riverlands. Coratillans fish in the River and farm what they can in the rocky, sandy soil. It also provides beasts of burden for the nearby settlements in the form of its domestic dinosaurs.

Infrastructure

Basajar's Staircase connects the docks to the city proper, which sits on a bridge over the canyon. Massive dinosaurs haul goods up and down a ramp running alongside the staircase.

Guilds and Factions

Coratillo is home to dozens of guilds that change regularly. The guilds oversee matters that fall within their realm of expertise, and their leaders collectively vote on matters that go beyond the bounds of a singular guild.   Generally the politics are no more sordid than the average town council, but Coratillo has seen its share of intrigue and scandal.

History

Coratillo faced the same problem as its sister city: though the Rocaroja Canyon provides important building materials, it cut the Riverlanders off from the Great River. Their solution was Basajar's Staircase. Named for the fabled giants of Rocoroja region, the staircase is carved directly into the side of the canyon and leads to the Coratillo Overpass.

Tourism

Between the marvels of engineering, the dinosaur races, and the edge-to-edge ziplines, Coratillo is a hotspot for those with the means to travel. It is a city known for parties and adventure, and visitors always leave with stories to tell and secrets to keep.

Architecture

Coratillo's architecture has a simplistic, almost brutalist feel. Jutting terraces and abrupt edges give the impression of perilous descents even at the bottom of the canyon or the center of the Overpass.

Geography

The Rocoroja region is a dusty desert with lonely cacti, eerie howls, and painted sunsets. Wind-carved buttes and sun-sanded plateaus break up the horizon line of the endless crimson land.

Natural Resources

Besides the sandstone, shale, and limestone quarried for building material, there is little else of use around Coratillo. The River provides freshwater and a small amount of fish, but Coratillans are fairly reliant on the rest of the Riverlands for their needs.
