Dwarves mature at roughly the same rate at humans. Babies for 2 years, toddlers until 6, and adolesence frequently begins at 16.
Their hair only really gets old and grey in their third century of life.

Ecology and Habitats

They come from the mountains, and either live in hollowed out caves or make it themselves.
Dwarves often look for sources of lava to heat their forges.
Whilst they can live above ground, mountain dwarves find it difficult to spend large amounts of time in the sun.

Very fond of strong drinks like ale, although this is not true of every dwarf.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Common, Dwarvish

Culture and Cultural Heritage

They are a species of warriors, poets and smiths, usually not in that order. Nowadays that translates to being underpaid and underappreciated factory workers.
They have a hereditary love of stone and stonework.
Smithing is incredibly important to them, and if each one isn't made to perfection they consider it a waste of time.

History

As one of the founders of the Mountainhead religion, they have definetly been around for a very very long time. Possibly the first race on the material plane.
They fought in the Stone war against the elves, the evenly matched forces creating massive amounts of damage.

Common Myths and Legends

As a major part of the Mountainhead religion, they are fond of the Founding myth.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Elves and dwarves have a lot of bad blood considering their wars, and the elderly ones often devolve into fighting each other. Younger ones have a bit more respect for each other, having common ground in crafting.
They find a lot of friendliness with Humans, having ancestral roots in the Mountainhead church. Humans short life spans mean that dwarves often befriend entire bloodlines.
They have respect for Gnomes, being tinkerers instead of smiths, and as they live similarly long lives they frequently form rivalries.
Though they would never admit it, a lot of dwarves have a principled distrust of Tieflings, them having inborn magic and descended from devils. However it isn't uncommon for them to make friends with Tieflngs.
They hate Orcs, this is entirely because Orcs kept destroying trade routes in the BD periods, and still today, so they have a lot of distrust for them.
They're fond of Halflings, but don't spend much time with them, as they are a little too friendly for them. It's honetly disconcerting to have a race of friendly barkeeps.
