Living in forests, small caves and deep underground in the Underdark.
They carve out small burrows wherever they can, but deep gnomes often build cities, forest gnomes canopies, and rock gnomes interconnecting tunnels.

Usually too unorganised to form an official government, so the small crimes they do commit often go unnoticed. But, it is incredibly unlikely for gnome society to have a murder, most of them are too busy building inventions and burrows.

They have a lot of common ground with Kobolds, both being genius inventors with tendencies towards madness. As such they are often good friends.
Dwarves and gnomes share a mutual respect, both being master craftsmen. Both are too polite to admit that they both think that they make the more practical creations.
Gnomes like Humans, and as highly intelligent creatures, often find themselves employed as tutors to them.
