Psiconus

What Mystimon would you rather have with you when walking into a potentially dangerous situation?

I don't know about you, but I would rather have a Psiconus. These docile and timid creatures, very easy to domesticate for their docile nature, have the beginning stages of telepathic powers, using the crest upon their reptilian head: they have the amazing ability to sense danger coming from a mile away. It almost seems as though they can see the future.

So the next time you are walking into a potentially dangerous situation, consider bringing a Psiconus with you.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Psiconus is a bipedal reptilian creature with a two bony ridges atop of its head. They also have short fore arms they use to scavenge and forage for food. They also have a long tail.

Biological Traits

They have telepathic and telekinetic powers, from which the bony crown ridges on its head appear to be the focal point.

Growth Rate & Stages

Psiconus Evo's from Psicon. It will later Evo into Psiclare.

Ecology and Habitats

They mostly make their homes in dark caves or hollows, or in valleys or canyons. Ones found in the Deep often have much larger crowns on their heads.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Psiconus will forage for mushrooms and a variety of other plant-life. Their favourite are a mushroom that only grow in caves, called Glow Cap.

Behaviour

These creatures are docile and timid. However over the years, they have grown used to people, and will often not react at all when a person approaches.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They form large family groups with Psicon, Psiclare, and Psimorph.

Domestication

For their docile nature, people have found it rather easy to domesticate these creatures and make them pets or even use them for various purposes, such as on farms.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Sometimes, Psiconus are found on farms, using their telekinetic powers to move things that need to be moved or even to alert the farmers to potential danger. Some Maji Guard officers will bring along a Psiconus when on patrols to alert them to any danger.

Facial characteristics

They have a long reptilian snout with two large eyes and two bony ridges along the top of its head, called a crown.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are found all over the world, in Almahna, Olympus, and Altantea mainly.

Average Intelligence

Psiconus are incredibly intelligent, which makes them easy to train.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have telepathic and telekinetic powers, and appears to use the crown on its head as the focal point for these powers.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

They appear to have a symbiotic relationship with the Batro that live in the same areas.

Discovery

From the notes of Doctor Ivan Sanderson

"For ages, scholars have argued off and on over whether something as small and tiny as Psicon Evo. I look at the creature as an infantile stage to something much larger. And that is precisely what I discovered with Psiconus.

For many years it has been thought by some that these creatures were a variation of Sandra, perhaps a male or something of the sort. I have always disagreed. I mean, look at it! They are quite obviously a very different species. But others never saw it that way.

I long had a theory that some considered preposterous, that these creatures were in fact an Evo form of Psicon. Well finally, my assistant, Jane Dawn, finally convinced me to head out and attempt to prove my theory.

We knew of a place close by, in the ridges of Dragron Valley in Southern Almahna, where there was a colony of Psicons. So that is where we went. Our goal and objective was to observe the Psicons and see how they lived and see if perhaps we could find some connection to these creatures I dubbed Psiconus, that other foolish people thought were a variation of Sandra. We were going to prove my theory, I just knew it.

For many days and nights we observed the Psicons as they just went about their lives in their natural habitat. As they scavenged for food. As they drank from the river. Even as they huddled together in small burrows. By the third week I was beginning to grow discouraged. I wondered if the fools in the science community were indeed right after all. Would I have to return and admit my mistake? I am not a proud man. Whether a theory is proven or disproven, it is exciting either way. But this was one case where I truly wanted to be right.

But then something began to happen around the one month mark. The Psicons began to act excitedly about something. But what could it possibly be, I wondered? Then they began to migrate from their hollows in Dragron Valley north, toward Mount Hellfire. Whatever could they be doing? In all of my years I have never observed such behaviour in these creatures before, nor had I heard of anyone else observing it either. Jane and I could do nothing else but to follow the family of Psicons up to the mountains, yet we hadn't exactly prepared for a mountain climbing excursion. And so, Jane returned to Calrune to gather the equipment we would be needing as I followed the group the best I could so as to not lose track of them.

She returned to me and we rendezvoused just at the foot of the mountain, just as I was beginning to lose sight of the creatures. Slowly but surely we made our way up the mountain behind the group of Psicons. Finally we made it up to a mountain trail leading up to a ridge looking over over all of Southern Almahna. We huddled behind some rocks as we observed the Psicons, as night had begun to fall and the moons were rising high in the sky. That was when it struck me. Tonight was a rare night indeed, for both Luna and Mund would be full in all their glory! Could that be what attracted the Psicons up here?

Indeed, as we continued to observe the creatures, they began to all stare up at the moons in unison, making strange chirping sounds that sounded almost like music of a sort. Then one by one, many of them began to Evo, as they grew much larger and into bipedal forms, as crown-like ridges formed atop of their heads. They had indeed Evo'ed into the very creatures I had dubbed 'Psiconus'. My theory was proven. Jane and I documented everything that we could, as she sketched the scene before us.

We shall be returning to record yet more observations of these amazing creatures.
